How do you shoot long range? Do you adjust your scope for the drop or holdover. I put all my data in my ballistic calculator and figure out the drop out to 500 yards. But I just used holdover which I think I could shoot a lot better if I could just center the cross hairs. The scope is a 2x7 Burris. I thought about wrapping the dial with tale and marking zero and confirm drops say to 400 yards or so and just mark a line for every 50 yards or so. If there is a better way please enlighten me

Current 2-7's have 1/4" per click, per 100 yards (IPHY)
The 3-12's I used all were 1/8" IPHY back in the day.
Can you take picture of what your elevation adjustment looks like?

I can't post pics Ernie, but it is 1/4" clicks at 100 yds
That is part of my question say at 400 yards my bullet drops 40" does that mean every click in elevation at 400 yards is 1" so I would need to move it 40 clicks up.
Is it-
1/4"@100
1/2"@200
3/4"@300
1"@400

Is that right I'm just trying to figure out how many clicks to adjust for different bullet drops

You are correct.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Ok so what do you use for I between yardages? Say 370 yards my bullet drops 30 inches. Do you just get it close and hold a little high or low? Sorry I just haven't ever done much long range shooting

I'd adjust for; see formula....

(Distance to target in yards) / (100) = inches per MOA at that distance

(Number of inches of adjustment needed) / (inches per MOA at that distance) = MOA adjustment

(Number of clicks per 1 MOA on scope) x (MOA adjustment) = adjustment in clicks on scope

so....
370 yards / (100) = 3.7
30" drop / 3.7 = 8.1 MOA of adjustment
4 clicks (because 1/4" MOA scope) x 8.1 MOA = 32.4 total clicks of adjustment (I'd round to 32)

Is that clear as mud?

This is a Custom Turret Systems setup on a Burris 3x-12x Target Turret scope. I haven't shot the gun yet with it but hope to soon.

Thanks for sharing I talked to Ernie and he suggested I try them out, I am going to see how my 3x12 Burris holds up to the 460 s&w in a 15" encore
