Our anniversary was back in June and without any input from me, the wife found and booked a three day hunt for fallow deer at the Wilderness Lodge, which is only about 3.5hrs away. Thought it looked like a great place online and so got it on the schedule for October, late enough for some fall color but early enough not to freeze our giblets off. So I invited the old man along. I decided to take the .480 SRH, along with a rifle for backup. Luckily, my chest rig from 7X also arrived just in time! My load consists of a 355gr Oregon Trail LBT at 1400fps. On the first morning, a nice fallow buck came from behind my stand and presented a nice broadside shot at 30yds. Since I was only half a day into my 3-day hunt, I decided to take a Corsican ram the following afternoon. Both critters were an easy task for the .480 and I managed perfect double lung shots on each. Dad took a nice fallow buck with his .30-06 on the second morning and then we hunted sheep together the following afternoon where he took a nice four horn with a 355gr from the .44Mag Bisley Hunter. We had a good time. The lodge is really nice, the food was excellent, the staff helpful and friendly, the scenery was spectacular and we made several new friends from north of the Mason-Dixon. They had some spectacular Axis bucks and we're tempted to return for a couple of them. Right now I'm working on Euro mounts for our trophies.

Good job, any hunt spent with your dad is a great experience. Seen a lot of nice Axis deer when we wintered in Texas a few years back, them & Black Buck Antelope would be fun to hunt.

Congrats! Sounds as if a great time was had and you also ended up with some great trophies.

Very nice! That place is handgun hunting heaven.
