Two weeks ago I met up with Jack Huntington, Jason Menefee (master gunsmith who works for JRH), and good friend Mike for the 1st Annual JRH Holiday/Invitational/Jamboree/Bovine Bloodfest at Action Outdoor Adventures, a ranch in Hondo, Texas. We had such a great time, we would like to do it every year in October when the weather cools a bit in Texas. Hondo is about 40 miles outside of San Anotonio. While Action Outdoor Adventures has a large number of exotics, we were interested in their bovine population. We took a total of five animals collectively. The last animal on the last day was a Watusi that decided he was unhappy with me approaching him after being knocked down by Jason and his .41 Mag. He stood up when I got within about ten feet and things got a bit western at that point, but I quickly put him down with two shots from my .500 Maximum, followed by a fusillade of gunfire by Jason and Jack Huntington alike. I used the trip to test out a few bullet/load/caliber combinations. The trip was well worth it, the outfit was first rate, and the company first class. Looking forward to next year!

I killed this water buffalo with my new .454 SBH loaded with Garrett's new "Redhawk Only" 405 grain .45 Colt +P load. Two of the three bullets were found poking through the skin in the offside shoulder, the third having exited. It worked well.

Jason Menefee and a water buffalo cow he shot with his .41 Magnum (this is a revolver he built), loaded with Buffalo Bore 265 grain .41 Mag loads.

Jason Menefee with a large bull he took with his .500 JRH BFR loaded with Buffalo Bore 440 grain loads.

The Watusi with the attitude. Jason initially shot it with his .41 Mag. but I corrected his attitude with my .500 Maximum.

And lastly, my water buffalo cow taken with my .500 Maximu loaded with CP 525 grain WFNs over 38 grains of 1680.

Fantastic hunt! That's a LOT of meat on the ground!

What he said!

Nice work with the wheelguns Max! Other than irritate the Watusi, how did that .41 mag 265 perform on the big critters?

Very well. The Watusi was actually pole axed by that 265 grainer. It hit the ground like it was struck by lightening. Had we left it alone, perhaps there wouldn't have been a western moment.

Thank you!

Very well done!!!! If that doesn't make you want to go out hunting with a revolver, you are not awake.

It looks like y'all had a hell of a hunt! That's perfect. Everyone took nice animals and had a great time. It doesn't get much better than that

Max, Like I said on SA, this has to be a record for taking three water buffalo, two in Texas and one in South America, with a handgun. Maybe the "Bovine Bloodfest Award".... Hope there are 10 more in your gun sight`s.....

That looks like it would be a great time. Max, what range were these taken at? How did the open sights fare compared the red dot/scoped guns?

Nothing like shooting something really big with a handgun. Gets the juices flowing. Congrads.

Thanks guys!

Both water buffalo were taken at around 25 yards give or take, the Watusi, while technically not my animal was shot quite a bit closer -- probably 10 feet or so.

I like both sight systems and both have their place. I really like the way my Maximum handles -- balance is great, sights are quick to acquire, and I can press it into action rather quickly.
