I am a DIY kinda guy and I have been wanting to try my hand at making grips and forends for some of my barrels. I have done quite a bit of research and found that Don Shearer had a instructional how to DVD that he used to sell but found out that he passed and his website is no longer up. Anybody know where I can get my hands on this DVD? Or any other instruction or advice? Thanks

lots of muzzleloader building dvd's out there. in all reality it's just concepts, and the platform isn't really the important part. your inletting, inlaying, wood to metal finish, glass bedding, fit and finish are the important things you need to learn and there are a lot of videos out there that will teach you just that, even a lot on youtube. My advice is, GO SLOW, use a blacking agent, go slow, take breaks and don't be in a rush. My average flintlock build takes a min of 120 hours, could go up to 200.

pistol grips and forends are pretty simple. practice with a 2x4 and replicate the originals until you get the hang of it. Then you could make some cool laminations with some exotic woods or use a nice solid like curly maple, cherry or walnut. Checkering isn't too hard and practice silver or brass inlaying. you can make some really nice stocks once you get the hang of it.
