In continuation of my 30-30 Winchester exploration, I ordered some 150gn Matchking bullets. I've got a handful of powders and some published recipes, but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences they were willing to share.

This will just be for paper punching with a 14" contender factory barrel or trying long head shots on p-dogs if a load works out well. The 110gn vmax will shoot 2" groups at 220 yards on a calm day with thrown charges. I'd like to see how much I can improve on that with a match bullet and weighing the charges.

My experience with the Barnes flat tipped copper load showed that almost all the powders produced a nice group at ~2050-2100 fps so my first exploration with be in that area. Any other suggestions?

karl,

Had good luck with Accurate 2015 and Accurate 2520, 33-34 grains (start lower and work up) in the 30-30,14" Contender with 150 gr bullets.

I like the Barnes 110 TacTX in the Herrett. Very very accurate and deer hate it. It does a shade over 2400 fps in my 10" MOA with a non max load of H4227. Had it out yesterday for the KS opener.

Any luck with the opener this year? I was very happy with the TACTX in 30-30 on deer this fall. It will be my go to hunting round for thing that get eaten. I'm just looking for other excuses to work up new loads and spend time at the range. I need to fine tune my TACTX load too, but that will come.

Couple small bucks. Largest was probably 16" inside. Wouldn't have been much of a shot at 15 yards

I saw a monster yesterday but of course I was working and not hunting which is typical I think. Ha
