I am looking to extend my range a bit past what my 44 will reach with the red dot. After looking at a lot of options, I think I have decided on the Cva pistol in 300Blk. I'd like to hear from some of y'all that have used the 300Blk, or the Cva centerfire pistols in general. I have looked at the Encore's, Contenders, and multiple calibers. I'd like to have a 150yd- (possibly 200 with a lot of practice) handgun capable of deer sized game. Cost of the Cva is about half a T/C, and the Cva 300blk has an 11" barrel, which would be easier to carry than a 15" Encore. The 300Blk should develop most of it's potential in the 11" barrel, and practice ammo isn't too expensive. I intend to find a 4x Leupold to use with this pistol. Being on a budget, trying to come up with a longer range handgun, avoiding the recoil of a 308 or 30-06 (I hate muzzle brakes)having reasonably cheap practice ammo, and finding all this in a decent, compact package, the Cva seems to be a great option. Would those who have experience with these guns, and this caliber, be kind enough to share their thoughts? Any ammo/load suggestions would be appreciated as well. I won't be using a suppressor, and am thinking I'll try the Barnes 110gr Tac-TX load to start with.

I've had a lot of success with the 125 gr. Nosler BT and the 125 gr. Speer TNT bullet.

I'm interested in the responses as well. The CVA Scout seems like a good pistol.

I haven't used the gun or load, but I am very happy with the black tipped TAC-TX in 30-30 out of a 14" TC barrel (just a little faster then the what you would expect with the 300 blk). After a couple trips to the range where I would shoot 100+ rounds, I found the typical $0.60/bullet cost a little steep so I stared loading the 110gn vmax for practice. Different POI, but very similar ballistics and cheaper. Ballistics calculators say the TAC-TX should expand well past 400 yards with my load.
Disclaimer-I am a big proponent of copper bullets in food my family eats. With the exception of cost, I would have a difficult time finding a reason to shoot anything else in a 30 caliber pistol.

Cost of the Cva is about half a T/C This may be the case, but once you have the T/C frame you can add other barrels at will and create a much broader spectrum of hunting capability.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Franchise, details please. I have been thinking about trying a 300 blackout also. What range were your shots and how did the bullets perform?

I like heart and lung shots with both bullets. I would not hesitate to take these shots to 125 - 150 yards. Both will leave excellent blood trails. The TNT gives more dramatic expansion. Both loaded with 20.6 gr. Of H110. This is my favorite WT deer round. The Nosler BT gives better penetration.

Boot,
I have several platforms in 300 BLK/Whisper, and have run the 110 Barnes TAC-TX with excellent results in my short-barreled AR. The CVA Scout should produce similar velocities. I wouldn't hesitate to use the factory load on shoulder shots or vitals on deer with this load and barrel length, as I have not caught a bullet yet with numerous hogs to its credit.
It's a bad little bullet in a low-recoiling cartridge.

It's a bad little bullet in a low-recoiling cartridge. That's exactly what I am looking for. Would you say it would be effective at 150yd? Of course with proper shot placement.

Listen to SChunter. He's a modern day hunting machine. He is a guy that sells giant magnets for the price of a nice jet. Anyone that can do that can convince you that a round no larger than a cigarette butt is best of the best. ;-) No in all honesty I think the 300 BO is a very capable caliber. Zero recoil Very low report 125-225 gr bullet range Brass can be made from surplus 223 Keep in mind it is a150 yd gun.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.
