Callshot was saying all the Cottontails would be gone, well I waited for another snow storm & went back to my favorite spot & there were tracks every where. Rabbit tracks, coyote tracks & one set of Bob Cat tracks in the fresh snow. I've mentioned before my honey hole is along a road where the county dumps all the road kills & there's a cow moose there, along with several deer that have been hit by cars & trucks so its a magnet for predators looking for a snack. I probably hunted for only 45 minutes, saw 5 rabbits & got all 5 with 6 shots. One of the long shots was on a bunny that wouldn't stop running around & when he finally did he stopped on some dry ground instead of snow. With my 70 year old eyes thats a bad shot for me, I can see them until I get behind the sights & then they fade right into the surrounding cover. I held where I thought he was & hit him but it wasn't a center hit. I slipped out of the truck & Indian upped on him in the heavy sagebrush. After 3-4 minutes I spotted him facing me head on through the heavy cover. I took the only shot he gave me & hit him right between the headlights, dead rabbit. If there's a better rabbit sixgun than the 32 maggie I'd have to see it. Accurate, quiet, cheap to load, easy on the meat but as deadly as Callshot on a free cheeseburger! My load is 3 grs of WST & a 100 gr SWC that has been powder coated. I've taken many, many rabbits & grouse with that load, plus hundreds if not thousands of ground squirrels. Dick

Nice shootin', Dick. I can smell the hasenpfeffer cookin'
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Nice shooting Dick! I'm going to have to make the Micro-magnum conversion one of these days.
And those 70 year old eyes can easily outshoot my younger ones...

Good job Dick -- looks like you're having too much fun! I am scheduled to receive the Single-Seven this week after Mag-Na-Port has worked their magic. Thanks to you -- got some bullets loaded and ready. Thank you again for all of your help with this cartridge -- I appreciate everything.

Thanks guys, with that fresh snow as a background those cottontails really stand out. Most shots are 10-40 yds but you seldom see a whole rabbit, they are masters at sitting tight & letting you go right past them. When they are on dry ground or sitting in the lava rocks I'm in big trouble with iron sights. We're getting ready for a major attack on bunnies in Wyoming with the grandson's during Christmas break. James, you were very close to my honey hole for rabbits, it borders a major mule deer winter range & there's lots of predators that follow them in there including Mountain Lions. The local houndsmen take a lot of big cats out of there every winter.

Excellent shooting. I wish we had a population of rabbits like you do here in New England.

How many of you guys have actually tried Hasenpfeffer?? It is by FAR my favorite small game recipe. If ya haven't tried it, ya really owe it to yourself to give it a try.
Great shootin on those rabbits! Makes me wanna get out with Anaya and see if we can't fly down some more! She's out with a broken talon for now, but hopefully next weekend, we will be back at it.

Cherokeetrapper, I'm very comfortable with the distance that I shot that Lion since it was only 60-70 inches! I was young & reckless at the time & didn't realize the danger of being that close. My S&W 357 & Keith bullet did the trick quite well but I could have been in big trouble with a full grown cat that close. I have an old friend who's in his 90's that has taken many, many Lion's over the years & he once took one with his knife. Not on purpose but when he caught up with the hounds & the treed cat he found out his K22 was empty & he didn't have any ammo with him. He tied his hunting knife to a branch with one of his shoe laces & the fight started, 40' up a tall pine tree. He finally got it killed but only told a few people because he didn't want someone to call him a liar, he was/is a very proud man & didn't tell "stories" if he said it, it was true!

Sadly my snow shoeing days are over, after my back surgery I ended up with a crippled foot & I have to be very careful where I step. When I'm in the snow I always have to use a walking stick & if I'm hunting along the lava reefs I'm extra careful because the snow can bridge over a crevice & if I stepped in one & fell I'd be in bad shape. Most times I'm out of cell phone service & alone so having a broken leg isn't an option. I fell in one once years ago while stalking a fox, its something you don't forget!
