On yesterday I was able to connect on a nice 11 Point that weighed 175lbs ... A nice deer by our standards in Alabama. I slipped into my stand at 5:45AM and hoped the west wind and cooler temps might create some positive energy. Around 7:00AM I hear a snort off to my right and figure the game's over, but stayed on stand until close to 8:30AM.

I decided when I climbed down that I would stalk my way out by skirting the edges of the SMZ I was hunting as it curved around back to the main road and my ATV. SMZ's are Stream Managament Zones that are left to protect creeks and watersheds. Generally, timber on each side of the water is not cut about 15-20 yards deep. These areas create the perfect environment for Handgun and Bow Hunters as shot distance is limited, and deer use these as travel corridors.

So, as I'm easing my way through from tree to tree I begin to notice a great deal of rut activity. Rut hits late here as some of you may know. I'd guess 200 yards down the SMZ and getting close to a deep creek that turns back East I notice movement. Sure enough, it's a deer. Deer picks up his head ... Buck ... and no doubt it's a shooter. Two steps he takes to clear a small Holly Tree and I let the shot go. Fifty yards later and there he is. The Glock 20 and SeeAll Sight performed well.

I suppose persistence does pay off ... And a break in the bad weather!

Thanks guys ... I posted a pic over in the BB.

The shot was 35 yards. I was shooting standard Hornady Custom 180 XTP. First shot piled him at 50 yards. As I approached he lifted his head and i gave him two more for quick dispatch.

Really nice buck! I grew up in central Alabama. My home town is Columbiana in Shelby County but I have lived here in North Carolina since 1988. Where do you hunt?

One of my cousins killed a really large eight point day before yesterday in Shelby just south of Columbiana.

Congrats.

I am just a dumb stump from out west, and even I can tell that is a fantastic deer. Great job, and kudos for doing it with a Glock.
