Took the CVA out for the last hunt of my season (well, for Whitetail at least. Axis and pigs are still in danger). I was able to harvest a meat doe with what was probably one of the easiest hunts I've done. Get into the blind, sit down with the wife and kid, wait for just about an hour and a shootable deer shows up. While it was a chip shot (about 65 yards or so), I was able to call exactly where the shot would go and dropped the deer with no fuss right on the spot.

And my game camera just happened to snap a picture right as she hit the ground:

This was the first time either my wife or son (7 years old) were going to see a deer harvested, so of course it was a bloody, gory mess:

I was worried, but my son was totally not bothered by it. Wife was a little squeamish, but all was well.

All in all, it was a great hunt. Spent time with good friends and family, harvested a deer, spent some time outdoors, and bloodied the little CVA. Plus, I think just about 3 other people that were hunting now want to buy one. It is an impressive little package for being so affordable.

You didn't waste any time getting that gun in the field.

Nice shootin'

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Nice job. Been eyeballing one myself. What kind of velocity are you getting out of the 14 inch barrel

It makes up for having the gun since October 3rd with no scope

Looks like a below the ear hit... You said: "While it was a chip shot (about 65 yards or so), I was able to call exactly where the shot would go." So you were trying for a head shot at 65 yards? If so great shooting! If not, then way to go on a clean kill anyway!!!

As you said "a bloody gory mess" ... I can't blame "the wife" at at all for being "a little squeamish." Not trying to offend you or start a riot at all...

FWIW congrats on a doe kill with your .243 CVA.

I like head shots when culling or after multiple animals at once. Very effective and definitive when done right.

Bullsi1911 is a head shot aficionado. In fact, I have to beg him to NOT take head shots at times in order to garner a little terminal performance knowledge from a new bullet or load.

Not much in depth science to a head shot. Bullet goes in, disrupts the cerebral cortex, bullet goes out. Thus endeth the lesson.

And I hunt near a fenceline. I hate tracking, and I hate tracking across a fence even more.

That side is the exit wound. The entrace was right behind the eye on the other side. She either had her head tilted a bit, or the bullet deflected downward where it exited just below the jaw, Either way - DRT

Great shoot'n!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.
