Looking for a 22 lr Id like a revolver for options on rimfires (LR, CB, Shorts etc) This gun will be used for woods bumming and squirrel hunting and rabbit dispatch.
I have not had good luck with single sixs in the past. Anyone have any recommendations. I handled a Rossi Plinker and was very impressed with the fit/finish and trigger. But they have had some negative words said about them. Any thoughts?

I really like the rugers but if you have to have a revolver the smith has the best accuracy on average. I have seen a few single six and bearcats that shot well but they were few and far between. I prefer ruger and browning autos. If ammo gets so bad that I need to be able to shoot shorts I will shoot them through a rifle so I can make every shot count.

I'm a Single Six man, but if you aren't, then a 6" Mdl. 17 S&W. If cost is no object, then a Mdl. 97 FA

Find a old flat top single six. There are 3 of them running around the house as well as a new one. The flat tops hit right on the sights at 25 yards and will shoot all six shots into 5/8" of an inch. At 50 yards from bags they shoot right at 1". Yep the old ones shoot.

To me it is hard to beat a S&W but the choice is up to you, and one thing that should be considered in the accuracy department is ammo. You will need to do a search and find out what ammo works best in your gun. Then buy plenty in that lot # if you plan to use it for hunting.

I like the 22mag cartridge and the option to change the cylinder and these two Smith`s serve have served me very well in that capability. However, I`ve seen the price of these handguns go through the roof so a Ruger Single Six would do just as good a job.... Sorry I sold mine...

The local shop has a S&W 617 6 in. stainless for $680 something and a model 17 blue 6 in. for $800. They also have a 3 in stainless S&W . They have Ruger SP 101's in 4in so pick your poison.

I have a 6" and an 8 3/8" model 17 S&W. One is 60 years old (belonged to my dad) and the other is 30 years old. Both great shooters after many, many rounds. They are the guns I shoot the most. Buy one and keep it for life. A good 22 shooter should be mandatory for every serious hand gunner.

If you can find one, Dan Wesson 22's are very accurate. Mine has both 8" and 4" barrels.

I bought a Ruger single six my first year of college back in 1977, Jack Rabbits payed dearly! Still love gun, thousands of rounds through it, accurate and reliable, then again I've got a Colt Diamond Back that's pretty sweet.

One thing to consider is loading. If you are going to do a lot of target shooting or plinking you will quickly get tired of a Single-Six. That was the reason I sold my Single-Six and bought a S&W 617. The 617 has a much better trigger and also being matched to a 686 I have a great matched set.

I like the Single Six, I have a 4&5/8 7 a 10", both are plenty accurate, plus you have the benefit of the mag cylinders.

My vote would have to be for the Ruger single six hunter. I love mine. Its very accurate with CCI lr and mag ammo. At 25y, the long rifle and the mag ammo shoot within an inch of each other.

One thing to consider is loading. If you are going to do a lot of target shooting or plinking you will quickly get tired of a Single-Six. Definitely something to consider. For hunting it isn't really an issue unless you get over-run by a rabid pack of zombie skirls, but take the grandkids out to the range and you will surely experience the scourge of impatience. I'd like to get one of those new GP's in 22 to accompany my 357, but there are other priorities at the present. The Bisley single-six works fine as well as my 22/45 for now.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
