I was thinking about buying an ultra dot Red dot sight for my 454 this year. Is there any difference in quality between the original ultra dot Which has the 4 inch MOA or the new ultra dot which has the different reticles? I just want to make sure that's all.

The only ultra dot I know of with multiple recycles is the matchdot 2. It also has what I guess would be similar to a target turret for elevation. I have used the original matchdot and liked the 2 moa dot but as far as quality goes. I couldn't tell a difference. I would say you're paying extra for equal quality but more features with the matchdot over ultradot 25 or 30. If I shot bullseye and steel plate competitions with my 22 ruger Mk3 the matchdot would be beneficial since I could use the 8 moa on plates and the 2 moa on bullseye. I guess shooting silhouette the newer matchdot may come in handy making elevation adjustments. Of course the matchdot will not fit between ruger style wings on the hunter version blackhawk. The ultradot 30 is great for hunting big game and all you would want unless you just wanted one of the other features.

I have Ultradot 4s and Ultradot 6s (that one have four different dot sizes and two other reticles), but still prefer the simplicity of the Ultradot 30.

I have one of the Match Dots (2moa - 8 moa) and I agree with Whitworth 100%. If I were to do it again I would just go with the UltraDot 30 (fixed 4moa dot). The ability to switch dots was something I thought would be nice but to be honest it stays on the 4 moa dot all the time anyway.

The UD 30 is also a little smaller and lighter than the either the Match Dot or the UD 6.

One other advantage of the 30, or 25 even, is that they will fit between the factory Ruger ring spacing, if applicable.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
