All my game taken with handguns has been with revolvers or single shots. Been wanting to take a deer with an auto for a while now so bought the Glock 10mm in the new G40. Was hoping to get some info on what bullet you recommend ,and what reflex sight you prefer.
Thanks guys, Norm

My Glock20 is posted on the Bragging Board. I've taken 2 bucks over the last 2 years and have only hunted with Hornady 180 XTP. I use this gun for shots 40 yards and in. The gun has a Carver Mount and SeeAll sight, but I'll soon ditch that and mount the new SeeAll Nite.

Wheelguns, I'm currently working with the Glock 40 now. Sent the pistol to Robar for grip reduction and other embellishments. I installed a Ghost trigger as I just couldn't tolerate the original. Finally I mounted the new Leupold Deltapoint Pro -- with 2.5 MOA dot and it's working well.

As for bullets, I like Hornady's 180 gr. XTP. If heavier bullets are preferred, DoubleTap and Buffalo Bore both provide 200 gr. + hardcast. Have taken a few boar but no whitetail yet.

Norm, I have a Jpoint (8 MOA dot) reflex mounted on my G34 and a Burris FastFire 3 (3 MOA dot) mounted on a .454 SRH. Of the two I prefer the Jpoint because its always on ie nothing to be fiddled with at a critical time. The 3 MOA dot gives a finer aiming mark but I've never found the 8 MOA to be an impediment to shot placement. Note: These are purely my subjective views and others will have different experiences.

Thank you gentleman for the response. How have the 180gr. XTP been holding up on the deer and hogs?

Mark is the Ghost trigger something that I could install myself? I like the thought of the smaller 2.5 MOA dot, will have to look into the Deltapoint Pro.

wheelguns, You may be able to install if you're familiar with Glocks. I had a buddy of mine (who shoots Glocks a lot) install mine. I have read about other options besides the Ghost but it made a world of difference in mine compared to the original.

I would have confidence in the XTPs knocking the soup out of a deer or hog.

Never used a 10mm on deer, but did extensive tests with .40 S&W. Shot many deer with many bullets. #1 was Sierra 165 gr. JHC. Most deer went down with one shot. All other bullets, including XTPs were 2 or 3 shots. Should work in 10mm fine.

I shoot a Glock 20 with 180 gr XTP
Deer die but I'm thinking to get something a little softer. Still 180 Grains.
As for a sight i have a trijicon RMR ($$) with an amber (i think 3 moa dot). Always on, No batteries.

I also have the vortex venom on a 44 mag and it is awesome. Dumped a Zeiss I had on it that was replaced by factory twice. This is low profile and the dot is better. hard to believe. 2.5 Moa dot but i shoot this thing past 100 yards so the smaller dot is warranted.

As for trigger you can mount a ghost yourself or just polish the factory one. Youtube search 25 cent block trigger job and it is easy. takes about an hour.

While we have discussed these optics here, and there are miles of threads and youtubes out there to research, one significant difference between sights that is rarely discussed is the "glass's" ability to take impacts. This is somewhat significant, in that it something not found nor documented by revolver users, but is in play with autos.

I too actually like the JPoints, and have several of them. But their lens will dent with brass impacts. My Trijicon RMR has had no issues with my Glock 41. And in looking at the brass marks that appear on the lens frame of my RMR, I am 100% sure the lens has taken hits. These are the only two that I have tested to date, with autos.

FWIW,

I shoot 180 XTP out of my g20SF. Taken several whitetails out to 50 yards. Most were one shot kills unless I didn't execute shot
in boiler room. I use lone wolf 6 inch barrel with trijicon night sights. Very happy with results.

WG,

I am really liking the 41. Besides doing a lot of load development for less than full throttle 45 Super, I had the chance to wear it on a trip up to the ranch a couple of weekends, ago. Still feet of snow up there in places, so it was a pretty good hike, up the hill. On the entire trip up and back to my vehicle, not once do I remember even noticing the gun on my hip, much less having to stop and adjust. Can't say that for similar trips with my 1911's or S&W 625.

I know thew term "woods carry" is pretty vague, but I am believing that the 41, and probably the 40 rank pretty high on that list.

I have the MOS model 40 I put the ZEV ultimate trigger in it and a LW barrel. This gun is very very accurate and easy to shoot. I have taken deer with the 180 XTP but am really liking the 200 Grain LFN hardcast running 1200 FPS.

I recieved my Double Diamond Guids Chest holster today outstanding rig for an outstanding gun.

You can't fix stupid!

I was concerned about the Model 40 handling heavy hunting reloads...Would really like one for deer.
