Just ordered a Ruger Redhawk 4.2" 44 mag which will look like a twin to my GP100 4.2". Had debated about 454/480 SBH and small Bisley 44 in my mind......but in the end....felt this was the middle of the road for a hunter/carrying won't slip from my greasy hand sidearm. Also ordered a fanny pack (Allen) instead of a holster...no sudden Grizzly action in San Diego...and even went so far as to pretend there are Grizzlies here by ordering some Underwood 340 gr. I also ordered another HiViz front sight for this weapon as my old eyes don't see other dark sights well anymore. Now the wait for arrival and the 10 day commie wait for Calif. I'll just continue to enjoy the 357 in the meantime!
........would love to hear from any hunters with the Redhawk experience.

I have a Ruger Redhawk ss 5.5" barrel. I love the gun. I have killed (6) deer with it. I killed five deer with the open sights that came with it out to 75 yards but last year I put a ultra dot 30 on it and killed another deer with it. It is my go too under fifty yard gun for hunting in places where I do not want the deer to go far after the shot.

A .44 Redhawk will cover any situation one could find themselves in. Great for hunting. It would be my choice for a Grizz attack which would be up close and personal. Double action, 6 shots, delivering a heavy bullet and still controllable. If that don't do it your time has come.

As I await the 44 magnum I spent the morning shooting my 357 at the range. This afternoon after returning I learned of the arrival of the 44 at the gun shop. So off I went to fill in all my paperwork for the transfer pay my taxes and begin my 10-day wait.

So this was the first time I got to hold and test my 44. Here is a few Impressions number one this boy's big really big and heavy compared to my GP 100.
Second I notice that the single action was quite nice I would guess somewhere around three-and-a-half to four pounds but the double action must have been twenty miles long and took forever which was a bit of a surprise .
third I found it has a small scratch and some of the finishing on a stainless was just not perfect.
Fourth I could never see scoping this or putting it into a holster .this thing is just so large I am glad that I ordered a fanny pack I think that will work a lot better for this old man.
Overall I am pleased and look forward to joining the ranks of other 44 magnum owners .this in conjunction with my 357 is the extent of my pistol collection
You know it's kind of a funny thing but the more I collect pistols the less interest I seem to have in my rifles. I guess it's just a lot easier to carry something small.

You will love it. I carry mine in a holster that comes across my chest. That fits my style of hunting from trees mostly. Keeps both hands free to climb with.

I have that same revolver in 45 colt. I shoot pretty heavy handloads out of it ( 44 mag. level ). It is a handfull, but boy does it shoot good. On a good day i am amazed at what i can hit with it. You will like it.

Good for you. Looking forward to the range report. Have been eyeing one of these in 45 Colt.

Rod, too.

Well... there won't be any range report today. I just picked up the gun this afternoon and found that it will not cycle when loaded in essence it binds on the bottom back end of the cylinder with a bullet touches the back wall. When the cylinders are unloaded dry firing is no issue other than a somewhat long double action... however it performs well . when three cylinders are filled it performs well in DA until the first cylinder loaded with a bullet comes around towards the bottom of the rotation and approaches the back wall and for some reason that causes complete binding repetitively.... it also does not matter if it is snap Caps or a bunch of different size 44 Magnum ammo I've tried them all and they all are binding when they come around to the bottom on the rotation and will stop your action completely where you cannot fire.

Disappointed.... But it will make a nice paperweight!

As a f/u to my yesterday post......I spoke with Ruger CS....they informed me that they have never heard of this type of problem before and were rather interested to have the gun back for review. So UPS should pick it up tomorrow.

Not sure if any forum members have seen this particular problem identified before? I have not seen this particular form of binding problem mentioned. This is a 2016 built new...and by the way....no more bullet in the box routine when you buy one...boohoo.

A bad one gets out every now and then.Seems lately Ruger has let quality slip badly. They are at least addressing the problem all tho it is a P.I.T.A when it happens. I would do some measuring on the cylinder length and frame gap top and bottom just for kicks.Could be frame warp, cylinder out of specs, cylinder window out of specs, crane bent. How much gap do you have between the recoil shield and the cartridge heads that do pass? At least they are not dening the problem.

Don't have any feeler guages.....can see a small sliver of light in the front cone/cylinder....in the back...none of any cylinders with different ammo placed in them will pass the 6 am position.......that's the extent of my skill level!

That's unusual. Seems like they're more than willing to get it fixed, though.

It's back.....2 week turnaround.....amazingly fast CS......thank you Ruger!

The enclosed form states....adjusted breech face, barrel gap'

When I called them a couple days ago...the CS agent also said they re-reamed the cone.

So....I put back on the front Hi-Viz and I'm ready for the range.!!!!! Great looking tool.
