Indiana's General Assembly passed and Governor Pence signed into law House Bill 1231. Effective 1 July the 10 mm will be a legal handgun deer cartridge. Also, deer rifles in .243,.30/30,.308, .30/06 and .300(not specified) will be legal. They have been legal deer pistol cartridges for many years. Lord willing, this year I will kill a deer with a rifle. A new .243 is calling my name.

They're only allowing specific rifle cartridges? Well, it's a start at least.

The law's final version permits rifles with 16 inch barrels, cases 1.16" minimum and firing non full metal jacket bullets.243" or .308"(7.62 x 39 and 7.62x54 included). The guns may only be used on private property and one may not possess more than 10 cartridges while in the field. Rifles previously permitted firing cases 1.16" to 1.8" long with bullets .357" or larger with no magazine or cartridge limits and used on public or private property are still legal. Now, if if that is not weird enough, try being a C.O. enforcing the law. I am a hunter education instructor and teaching the classes is a trick.
