I am still waiting on the draw results for WY antelope but I picked up a SBH 454 last week. I haven't had time to shoot it yet because of rain and a bunch of projects but this week will be the test. I have a love hate, but mostly hate relationship with SBH grips and especially the bisley but this year I am committed to making it work and taking the goat. Anyone else on here around the northern Colorado or southern Wyoming area that may want to do some shooting this summer?

Congrats on the new purchase. Be sure to post a range report when you shoot it.

Unfortunately, one size fits all factory grips normally do suck -- and quite a bit. I always emphasize the importance of upgrading grips to something that'll actually fit the individual shooter's hand. However, the Bisley is shaped well to control recoil, and in this realm it shines like no other IMHO. Good luck and keep us posted!

I live in Cheyenne. Message me & I will see if I can make it work.

Wel i finally got to put 20 rounds through it this morning. I started with some mild 45 LC and that was fun. Then i shot some Hornady 240gr XTP 454 that says 1900 FPS, it was stout for sure but not as bad as i thought it would be. I didnt hit anything with it but it gave me an idea of what this gun is capable of. I have some 300gr bullets i cast a couple years ago for a 45 LC i am gonna load up and start working my way up and see what i can do. My goal is to hit the range every week or every other week and be spot on by september for antelope and maybe deer. I didnt make it out the last couple years so this will be my first year hand gun hunting. I havent even been archery hunting for 7 years now, dang life gets in the way sometimes!

If anybody has some good mid range 45 or 454 loads let me know, i need to buy a new bullet mold and pick up some XTP's for loading. I have a lot of HS6 and faster powders, but i havent found any H110 or anything in a while. I need to get some brass ordered up, i may have to swap a kidney for some brass!

HS-6 works great for middy level loads in the 45 as well as the 454. I believe 15 grains and a 300 is the common combo for the 454. I like the John Linebaugh load, 13 grains of HS-6 with a 250 to 300 for the 45 Colt, runs from 1,000 to 1,100 depending on the bullet. It is a very flexible powder.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

A mid range load I use is 30gr/IMR4227 with a Hornady 250 XTP. That load runs 1470 fps through a chrono. [7 1/2" FA 83]
