I am looking for a pretty much universal powder to use in my JDJ's. I have been using AA2520 in pretty much everything from my 6.5JDJ all the way up to my 375JDJ with good accuracy and velocity. I picked up a pound of CFE223 at a local gun show and began my experimentation with my 7mm JDJ using 140gr Sierra Pro Hunters. I really wanted a 140gr bullet at 2400 fps but no current loading data supports this bullet weight at this speed. To arrive at some form of data for this powder bullet weight combo, I cross referenced my data for all the JDJ's based on the 225 Win case. They all have the same case capacity and if the bullet sectional density of the smaller calibers is equal or close to the 7mm in question, then the data and corresponding velocities should be very close. I found CFE listed on the burn rate chart from Hodgdon slower than RL-15 and Varget, but faster than 760, and 4350. I ended up loading 32.0 to 36.0 grains and velocity was 2100 to 2397 fps for that group. Best accuracy came at 35.0 and 36.0 grains. Absolutely no indications of high or excessive pressure. I'm planning on trying 35.0 to 38.0 grains to squeeze the best accuracy with the highest velocity. Just wondering if anybody else is trying this stuff.

I did some work with this powder using a 308 that my buddy has. It is dead nuts with a different load, but he came across a bunch of the CFE223 and decided to try it. He bought all of it that he found. I worked and worked on loads for him, but we couldn't get ANYTHING consistent! Velocities were all over the place, accuracy was NOT acceptable, and it happened all the way up and down the ladder. We finally gave up on it and he ended up selling the rest of the powder to a guy that shoots a 223 for gopher control on his ranch.

I'm curious to see how this continues to go for you. Hope you have better luck than we did!!!

Sounds promising. It seems as though it's performing like you want it to. Just remember to be careful during load development.

CFE powder was developed for US Military..Copper Fouling Eraser is designed to keep weapons firing longer in combat. A friend uses CFE PISTOL in his 629. Same model gun l use is actually dirtier after a match than mine. We both use the same cast boolits..Unique is my powder used.. I will say his CFE loads are very accurate.

I like I have had good luck with accuracy out of it and it meters a lot better than varget and some other powders I use
