I have been shooting the 454 SB a lot recently and i am thinking about putting a scope on it for hunting this year. I normally shoot 45 colt 250gr at around 1100-1200fps out of this which is all i need for now, the 454 is only used for fun. But i have been looking for a mount and the only one i see offered specifically for this gun is the weigand which of course looks really heavy duty but it would really restrict my holster selection, which i am also looking for. I wanted to do a cross draw leather holster but i dont see how i would make that work with the weigand mount. My question is has anyone used the weaver no drill mount on one of these, not sure if the deminsions are the same as the other super blackhawks? Besides holsters their is also a sizeable difference in cost so if i could use the weaver that would be great.

Which Weigand mount are you refering to, the no drill or the D&T model? I D&T'd a Weigand to the top strap of my Bisley 45 and it works great in a crossdraw holster. Not sure if the Weaver clamp on unit would hold fast with 454 recoil, but there are many guys who use them on 44's and 45's.

It is bulky, but I can't say enough good things about it. It just works that well.
