Well, I was lucky enough through a friend to purchase a fully guided mule deer hunt in New Mexico with an outfitter, who checks out, for about 1/3 the normal cost of one of his hunts. Now comes the bad news. As I was speaking to the owner and making arrangements on times, licenses and such, I asked about shot climate, deer antler size, shot distance, etc. I also tell him that I'm very confident with my .454 FA out to 200 yards. Silence....is that a rifle. My response, "No, a revolver." Outfitter, "Oh, we don't allow handguns on our hunts. Do you have a rifle?"

I guess I'm bringing a rifle but will have the FA along in hopes of making a convert. I'm not holding my breath but he sounds pretty dead set. Help me hope for the best.

Another doubter. Hope you get the chance to school him.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Good luck. Hope you can open his eyes to the capability of a hunting handgun.

That's a bummer. Good luck on the Mule deer hunt and maybe you can educate him.

Take him to the range when ya get there. Show him what revolvers can do, and he might just change his mind.

it amazes me the ignorance about handgun effectiveness. Hope you make a convert.

Just make sure you don't take any rifle ammo along on the hunt.... then you have a great excuse to use your revolver and show him what it will do.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement, it's definitely coming along.

Whit, I'm headed out the 27th of October through Nov 1. It's a private land hunt and I'm optimistic about the animals I will see. I've only driven through New Mexico, so this will be my first experience hunting there. The ranch is at 7000' not too far outside of Taos. Anybody else headed that way about the same time?

I'm with the others. Airline lost your rifle and ammo...but surprisingly the pistol made it!

Good luck!
