I have a Ruger super redhawk toklat 454 casull. when I got this gun it came with the reddish orange front site with square backsight. Also the Gold bead front sight and the shallow V notch rear sight. Has anyone really used this gold bead and V notch site setup for hunting. maybe it's me but i tried it and can't seem to see the gold bead very good with my antique eyes. I used to use same site on a 22 revolver I had many moons ago when I was a kid for pack gun.

I've used the gold bead front, with both the shallow v and standard square notch rear sights on Freedom Arms revolvers, and find that I prefer a square notch rear and undercut patridge black front sight to anything else.

However,my friend Dr. Larry Rogers (wvhitman) uses the Ruger gold bead and shallow v on his Ruger, does well with it, and really likes it. Everyone has their preferences.

I'd think the gold bead would work well with a one ragged hole type rear peep. I have a fiber optic front and rear peep and it makes for a nice hunting combo, but would like to try a gold bead if I could locate one. I think it would make for a finer sight picture for longer distances as the fiber optic is a bit fat, but that makes it quick on target as well.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Like Ken said, I was a V rear and gold bead guy for many years, BUT aging eyes changed things. The gold bead got hard to see(too tiny), so now I'm a V rear and front green fiber optic guy. I can hit 6" rocks at 100 without problems.
This gettin' old crap sucks.
