Hey guys. As some of you know, my grandfather passed away toward the end of July. Well, I picked up my inheritance recently. I would have posted this sooner, but I've been busy with work, school, and life in general and haven't had much time for photography. Anyway, here's what he left me.


S&W 38 Special. I don't know what model it is exactly, but I bet it would make a good CCW. It came with a holster and several 50 round boxes of ammunition.




Colt Model 80 - 45 ACP. This will make a good carry gun if I can find a way to keep it hidden. Plus, I'm hoping to eventually get a 460 Rowland conversion kit so it can be both a hunting and defensive handgun. It came with three magazines and four boxes of ammunition.




S&W Model 1086 - 10mm Auto. I initially thought this might make a compact, yet potent hunting handgun. Unfortunately, it's double-action only. I think it's a bit too powerful for defensive carry, too. It came with two magazines and three boxes of ammunition.




A pair of Ruger Blackhawks. The one on the right is a 357 Magnum, and the one on the left is a mag-na-ported 41 Magnum. These two will make a great pair of belt guns in case a close range shot presents itself. The only issue will be having to choose just one to take hunting with me. They both came with a few boxes of ammunition and a holster.



In addition to the five handguns, he also left me a few rifles as well.


Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster - 30-06 Springfield. It came with several boxes of ammunition, two 5-round magazines, and a 10-round magazine.




Remington Model Seven - 260 Remington. It came with several boxes of ammunition.




Ruger M77 Mark II - 223 Remington.




Weatherby Mark V Deluxe - 300 Weatherby Magnum. This is the rifle my grandfather used on almost every big game hunt he went on out west and in Alaska. I couldn't even begin to recount the number of game animals he took with this rifle. Unfortunately, he shot it so much that the rifling in the barrel has severely eroded, and now it won't shoot well at all. I tried everything I could to improve its accuracy, but the best my dad and I could manage was a 2" group at 50 yards. Some day, I'm going to get it rebarreled and take it hunting one more time.

My oh my. Some mighty fine firearms there. You will no doubt be reminded of him often. And you now have your hip gun(s). Did you get to keep the squirrel pistol as well? It would be nice to see that Weatherby take another big game animal, even though this is a handgun site ;-)

Yes, I also have the Mark II, and the Sako 375 H&H he gave me years ago.


I'll definitely post the story over on the Off Topic board once I make it happen. It might be a while, though. Got to let the 460, Optima, and Blackhawks taste blood first.

Sorry to hear about his passing. That's a nice collection he left you. They'll always remind you of hunts and time spent together.

Great collection of guns. I have never been a automatic deer rifle guy just more of a Rem 700 or lever action guy. But the old Woodsman 30-06 is a great gun, they just don't make auto's like that anymore. The Remington model 7's are really hard to beat also.

Very nice inheritance! As to your question about concealing your new 1911, it is one of the easiest full-sized handguns to conceal. They are flat and carry really well.

I carry a 1911 every day. Sometimes open carry, sometimes concealed. It is my Springfield TRP .45 ACP. Not hard to carry in either format.

I'm sure you'd give every one of those guns back to have your grandfather back, but like has been said, you'll think of him often, and enjoy hunts "with" him when any of those guns are along. I do the same thing with the ones my grandfather left me. It's always a special hunt to take one of his rifles with me.

You Grandfather had very good taste in guns!!!

I remember the day I went to visit Grandaddy and he said "Walk back here with me. I have something for you." He opens the sock drawer and pulls 3 handguns and proceeds to tell me the story of each.

"Which one you want?"

I took the Revelation 9 shot 22 revolver. It stayed at the camp when I was a boy and it reminds me of summers there with him.

Your grandfather did you right! He had some very nice guns. Being much older than you I now have a couple of guns that came from my father and one of them was his father's. They are both shotguns so I only hunt small game with them but I think of both my father and grandfather each time I look at them.

Seeing that old Woodsmaster Gramps was from south Arkansas and fed Walker dogs year around.

Really cool collection. I was fortunate enough to get my Gramp's firearms as well.

Awesome group of firearms! I especially like the m7/260 and mkii .223 rifles. Id be tickled to own both....even being a pistol man. 😉
