Looking to get a 14" .223 barrel for my Contender. I understand the standard TC twist would be 1-12, I'm thinking faster twist 1-9 or maybe even 1-8, what is the opinions here? Probably shoot 50 to 55 grain factory ammo (don't reload).
Thanks
Charlie

I am a fast twist kind of guy. I have a 13" barrel in .223 made by MGM and I had them put a 1-7" twist.

It shoots 50-77gr equally well.

I even have a 7" AR Pistol with a Noveske 1-7" twist barrel. Very accurate as well.

You can't spin 'em too fast, IMO. With the short tube you are going to lose a lot of speed so I'd get a 7. My 16" AR is a 7 and it'll drive tacks with 40's and 55's. Haven't tried anything heavier as yet.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
