I want to mount a compact red dot sight on my FA 83. I would like to be able to change the battery without removing the sight and be able to change light intensities. What are my options?

I only use 1" UltraDots, and both of those things are easily accomplished with that sight.

I'm using Burris FastFire III's and you can change the battery from the top w/o removing the sight from the gun and it has 4 dot intensity settings.

500WE.....how is your ultra dot mounted? I don't believe Weigand makes a base for an Fa83 any longer.

The Leupold Delta Point also allows the battery to be changed without removing the sight. I have both the Trijicon RMR06 and the Leupold and of the two, I like the Leupold better in most situations. All my FA mounts were made by Gordon Logan.

And it's a fine, sleek mount, may I add.

I did look on the FA site and I liked the short mount under the Leupold scope. However, I called FA and a woman told me the mount could not be used unless I was using a RMR sight.

Regardless of what the lady told you, FA does make a Delta Point base for the M83

Gary, would you mine expounding why you like the Delta Point better than the RMR? I haven't had to opportunity to see or handle either and would love to here your pro's and con's. One of these will most likely be my next choice on reflex sights.

You could always order a TSOB base for the 83 if you need a picatinny style rail

I have JP Enterprise red dot 3.5MOA mounted over original FA mount and it works just great. Yes, there is no manual light intensity option and battery replacement means removing the sight but it is happening only once in 5ys or so. Any time you significantly change your load which needs sight re-adjustment (I think it is happening once in a few years) you can use the opportunity to replace the battery

I have both a JPoint and a FastFire3.

In the FF3, the battery is held in place by a threaded battery cap located on top of the sight body. The thread is very fine and extremely easy to cross thread. Furthermore it is very easy to not have the battery cap fully screwed down. I had the experience of firing a couple of shots only to see the battery cover and spring fly off under recoil. OK on the range, disaster on a hunting trip.

The JPOINT has to be removed from the mount to change the battery. IMHO the 'problem' about removing the sight to change batteries is vastly over rated. For most miniature red dot sights, the mount features 4 raised studs/bosses which provide repeatable location for the sight. I haven't found a significant change in zero after changing the battery on my JPoint. It goes back to position just fine YMMV. Overall its a good solid simple system (KISS principle).

Again this is just my opinion, but I regard the issue as one of a solution to a non-existent problem.
