I was shooting my SW 460 last week and had a horniday factory loaded case split from the rim all the way up to the neck. It happened to be on my last cylinder for the day so I didn't shoot again. I started thinking, even though I saw no obvious signs of damage would there be any reason to think the cylinder strength may have been compromised?

Likely a defective case...lf concerned about cyl you might mike the cylinder outside and inside too. You can also ck cl with a set of pin gauges

GG,

I would contact Hornady. They will want the lot # of the box end tab. If they haven't had issues or an ammo recall on that lot, I would contact S&W.

I've had the same happen to multiple pieces from a box of new Hornady .45 Colt. No longer have the pistol so I can't say it was faulty brass.

My filter is broken.

I've run some hot loads in Hornady brass out of my 460 and haven't had any issues. Probably a poor quality lot of brass. Definitely contact them about it.
