It is probably a given among us to have several different handguns we would like to purchase in 2017.
But what would you like to achieve in your shooting skill in the next year?
Do you set improvement goals?
Whether it is improving your offihand shooting or tightening your groups from the kneeling position, how do you plan on going about and making those improvements?
Maybe there is some gear that you want to buy in this next year that will help you with those personal challenges ... what accessories do you plan to add in the next year?
We typically see I'm gonna buy this new gun or I'm going to go hunting in this location for this game next year.
What do you want to get better at in terms of handgunning?

I want to explore the semi-auto realm and improving loads/accuracy/distance as to hunting with one.

It's my new venue for hunting.

I started with revolvers back when I was young. Then I went the specialty pistol route. Then, back to revolvers.

I've always run semi-autos for comp and defense. Now, I want to explore the hunting venue with them. And, what it takes to accomplish that.

My goal for 2017 is simply to take a couple of deer and hog(s) with both my SRH and my Encore.

This doesn't seem like much but I'm pretty picky on the deer I take as well as limited on time.

For 2017, in order of importance:

1. Put a dot sight on my 41 Magnum Blackhawk and become proficient with it to at least 50 yards.

2. Get a higher magnification scope for my Optima pistol and see how far I can shoot it accurately. Maybe do a bit of trigger work.

3. (Possibly) get a 460 Rowland kit for my Colt Model 80.

4. (Possibly) get a 223 Remington or 22 Hornet MGM barrel for my Encore so I can practice more cheaply.

And I want a Gaston Glock model 40MOS with a lanyard loop, extra mags, a Venom reflex sight with a compass in the side.

Extend my consistent distance with the Striker. There's a club 30 minutes from me that I've yet to join, though intend to soon. From what I've been told, they have a range out to 600 yards. Not that 600 is my goal, but the range is there.

A couple of things come to mind.

1. I bought a 6.8 SPC barrel for my Contender and the base just shipped from Brownells. So, I want to put that together and shoot at coyotes with it this winter.
2. Get better with my contender starting with the .22 barrel. It shoots well enough, so I want to take a some squirrels with it before the end of the season.
3. Last, shoot something with the Python again. I have to help my girls first fill their tags, then its my turn.

I want to watch someone make a 45-70 franken-revolver and repeat the 45-70 Sandy Hook Tests.

I wanted to become a handgun hunter many years ago and bought a 357, but would never commit ... sold the gun. 4 years ago I decided the time was right and bought a Glock 20 and went all-In. I've never regretted it and have no interest whatsoever to hunt with a long gun. I've taken 2 bucks with the Glock. My goals last year were to scope my Ruger and learn to handload my own ammo ... both accomplished.

My goals for this year:

1. I want to harvest a mature buck with my SBH Hunter.
2. I plan to buy a specialty pistol ... a CVA .357 or a Contender in 10mm. Any advice on this purchase would be much appreciated. Being a new reloader I'm somewhat apprehensive about the rimless 10mm in the Contender, but I enjoy loading that round.

I`ve been asked many times what was my best hunt to which I always answered "my next one"..... Never taken a bobcat and hope my luck will change this winter in Maine....

My goals for the next couple of years are to get back what I have lost.Due to two rotator cuff surgeries, one on each shoulder this year.I have lost considerable strength and mobility. This impacts my shooting and daily life.Shooting goals are just to get better all across the board. My son is getting better at an alarming rate with his 7-30 Waters, and I just can't let him beat the old man.I always told the kids and grand kids my goals were to make them as good as I was. Then it was up to them to get better, they are better.

I don't really have any shooting goals, but rather two guns I want to acquire. A custom 327 Federal built on a Super Blackhawk frame. And I've wanted a 338 Lapua by armalite since I first saw the 338 Lapua ballistics several years ago. I know it's not a handgun, but it's been on the bucket list for years, so I told myself I'm gonna do it next year.

I have nearly all the handguns I want and certainly more than I can hunt with in a year so that is done. I doubt my shooting is going to improve much. Not bragging but I am pretty good. The only things on my bucket list are more hunts. I want to take elk and moose with a handgun. Want to hunt Africa with a handgun. I have scheduled that twice and both times a calamity struck before I even got on a plane.

Since this is just a dream list I will add mine. I'm not very good with handguns but I hope to improve to the point I can shot a prairie dog with my S&W 617 next year. From a rest I think I should be able to manage it if I find a dumb one that will let me get within 50 yards. If we get some snow this winter I hope to be able to shoot some rabbits with the 617.

Personal shooting goals for 2017:
Grouping the 357 Magnum Franken-Ruger from 750 to possibly 1000 yards.
Testing the Cold Shot MOAB mount past a mile on a rifle and a specialty pistol.
Group several SP's beyond 2K out to 2500 yards.
Get into better field shooting shape before June. I had some rust on my shooting skills this past summer.
Shoot some 600 yard F-Class matches.
See how far I can make connections on 10" Steel with my MOA, FA, THOR, and DOMINATOR SP's from field positions.
Increase my speed and accuracy on 6" squares at various distances with my SD/CC handguns while moving.
Practice with SD handguns out to 50 yards
Clean and organize my reloading room

My 2017 goal is to sell off 25% of my stash and shoot the remaining ones more. Hope I can pull it off.

Depending on what is in that 25%, I might be able to help ya with that!

There lies the issue. It took me 30 years to get my collection where it is. Not easy to decide what to part with, but it will happen.

The other issue is finding a new FFL to deal with. Mine passed away a short while ago, he was easy to deal with.

Since we are dreaming here , I would love to handgun hunt Africa with my Glocks! I saw where Razor Dobbs shot 2 Cape Buffalo with his 10MM. Not sure what velocity the 200 gr. Double Tap loads he was shooting attains from his Dan Wesson?

I do know from my G21 (6.6 LWD and one of my custom comps.) I can push a 335gr. CP WLNGC to 1105 fps or a 260 Cast to 1350 fps.
Either of these should trump his set up .

I saw a couple post here of guys wanting to pursue the semi auto for hunting. 1911 or Glock is all I have hunted with the last 4-5 years , Squirrel's, Rabbits ,Coyote and deer have fallen to the semi's, mostly Glocks as they are easier to modify for the level of loads needed for humane kills on large game.

Any one thinking of 460 Rowland , if you reload there is no reason ( other than making SURE a hot load DOES NOT GET INTO GUN NOT MODIFIED FOR HOT LOADS!) to go with 460 over 45 SUPER as you can shoot Rowland level loads from a properly modified Glock or 1911. If shooting only factory loads then 460 makes more sense.
