I have a .22 Ruger Mark II with 6 7/8" slab sided bull barrrel. I would like to put a scope on it and would like some recomendations. I plink with it and would love to hunt squirels with it. I have one friend that said put a red dot on it.

I was wondering what ya'll would recomend.

Red dots are nice but I prefer more magnification when shooting small game. My brother has a couple of his MkII's set up with various scopes of differing magnification. I like a variable. I have a few 2-6X Bushnell scopes for sale that would work GREAT...check the Optics ads.

I've run a bunch of scopes on 22 hg's. Anything much oever 4 power gets to be to big and looks out of place on a Mark 2 etc. I'd look at the extended eye relief model in 3x or 4x by Burris or Leupold. If $ is an issue, try Swift in same. Red dot is handy buy no magnification makes it better for speed shooting than target. Millet made one that is about 4" long that fit well on one of my Mark 2's, tho.

2x6 trophy Bushnell is your best choice. 2x for walking shots, and the option of greater magnification for shots where you can take your time and for target fun at the range

If your reciever is drilled an tapped, you might consider this combination.
Rugers extended scope base,
Bushnell Trophy 2-6 w/ Rugers 1" rings,
Bushnell Trophy Red Dot w/ Rugers 30mm rings,
Bushytails or Bullseye shooting, you got it covered.
You can swap scopes with no return issues, can supply part numbers if your intrested. Natches has 1x28-4 reticlle red dot on sale now.

I had a old 2.5x Redfield on my Ruger when I traded it. The 2x or 4x are smaller scopes and werk great for the 22LR.

I like the 4x myself for close and longer shots.
