Wanted to share my Handgun Treepod setup. I have found this to be a great and accurate way to go from the bench to tree stand with your favorite handgun.
This is a Caldwell Treepod - I added the 3/4" plywood shelving with 1/4" carriage bolts and wingnuts. A simple leather pillow that I added Velcro to holds it securely in place on the shelf.

Safe hunting

I really like the looks of that. Can you show us a photo that shows the whole system. Where did you get it?

Great idea. I just use sandbags and the window ledge. New project to begin, thanks.

Here are the pictures of the treepod with a bit more detail that you asked for. The only modification to the out of the box design is the added shelf. One thing I would suggest is add either paint or some outdoor urethane to protect the plywood or wood of choice. I would also think metal plating would work as well. The leather bag was purchased unfilled for ~$15.00, I filled it with corn-cob tumble media. The shelf is 5.5" wide 6.5" long near the size of the leather bag. If you choose to switch to a rifle just add the stock rest back into the slot the shelf can stay put. This also works on the Caldwell - Fieldpod which I use for coyote hunting.
Check out youtube there are a few reviews/examples of the tree pod and the amount of swing this allows you to have. I have handgun hunted now for 20 years and prefer treestand for deer, this is by for the best I have come up with where I did not have to reinvent the wheel. :-) This allows me to mirror my range practice in the tree.

Good & Safe hunting..

That looks promising. I may have to make something similar.

What would be the best treestand options to use this set up with? Lock On or a Climber? Summit, Ole man and etc. ? Just trying to get a feel before I hit the field with mine. I know a hunter will have to use a trial and error approach to get started. Just looking for some pointers to be aware of

I use lock-on style treestands; the hardware that comes with the kit has a metal plate and 5 carriage bolts/nuts to affix the pod to your stand. Assembly once in the tree is a bit cumbersome as your fighting gravity trying to bolt the bottom plate to the pod stand. To help I added nuts to the top side of the bottom plate so my bolts could not fall out, I also found that using zip ties to align and secure the plate assembly to the bottom of the stand is like having a 3rd hand. Again this all in the tree once the stand was already in place. Of course this is much easier on the ground before the stand is hung. I need to work with this more once season is over.. I think securing the bottom plate to the stand with the bolts vertical waiting for the top of the pod is the best option. Once affixed, it would be only a matter of pulling up the remaining parts and securing via the wing nuts.
As for the climber? I would think it would work as advertised, might be cumbersome to mount the stand then try and climb.
I can do more pictures if this would help, but right now my entire assembly is in the tree.. Maybe end of this weekend once I have it down.

Cool buck 358! I figured that a climber would be out of the question. I think the best way to approach this set up is with good scouting. I am going to get one but I will do a lot of scouting to place it in treestand that has a lot of traffic coming and going. Please share more pic's when you take it down. By the way I hunt with a .358 Bellm you talking about one bad caliber! I love my .358 Bellm!
