Opening Day in Alabama tomorrow. I'll be leaving for the camp in a couple of hours.
I'd normally be headed to the "East Creek Stand" in the morning, but the drought has dried all of our creeks up. A cold front is coming, so I'll hunt the white oaks in the woods on good winds. Maybe ... just maybe ...

Finally the wind has quit blowing here. It has blown hard, and gusted to near 40 mph the last couple days. This morning it is 32, and calm. I will be headed to my stand shortly.

Decided to stick with tradition and sat the creek this morning. To my surprise, there is a little water in small pools. I feel for the minnows as they are trapped, and I bet the raccoons are keeping them jumpy!
White Oaks are dropping so I sat a hollow this afternoon full of mature trees. I watched a doe and yearling munch all evening.
Have I mentioned how being in the woods does my spirit so much good? Today was great!

Yesterday was opening day of our rifle season. I hunted a pop up blind watching one end of a hay field while my son hunted the other end of the same field. Fifteen minutes before legal shooting time a big buck crossed fifty yards in front of me. I knew it was a good size buck but it was still too early to shoot and I could not see his rack so I passed on the biggest buck I have seen all season.
Fifteen minutes later it walked by my son one minute after legal shooting time and he killed the biggest eight point we had on camera.
That has been my luck so far this season. I have had pick of the stands for a month now and continue to choose poorly.
