Im seriously thinking about getting one.
Anyone own one that could add input?
Im currently shooting a bisley 44 with a 7.5
but would like a shorter barrel

Would you switch guns or chop the Bisley?

For me the Bisley is a little nose heavy.
Its a great gun, but I had in ported and a new fiber optic front sight installed (so Ill lose the porting unless its redone)
what to do.....what to do

Being the owner of several S&W 44 magnums,l would suggest
you handle a 5 incher before purchasing...
You did not say
if it was for Hunting, Packing. or Self-Protection...
Hunting- l would suggest at least 6 inch barrel..
Packing/Protection- Maybe look the new L frame Model 69.
4.25 inch barrel.. Not muzzle heavy like N frame Classic
Full Lug 29/629s.. Mod 69 is half lug..5 shot

it will be for hunting
so In Ohio it would be a 5" minimum

Ive had a 5.5 redhawk years ago
But I like the trigger in the Smith better

I've got a 5" 629 NIB that I'm selling if you're interested.

If you want the option to shoot heavy bullets and heavy loads, I think you should stick with the Bisley. I would have the barrel cut back. I turned my 7 1/2-inch Bisley from this:

Into this (5 1/2-inch banded barrel):

I agree, so I shortened mine.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Whitworth, That is a beautiful pistol after you shortened the barrel. Man, I want one in that length. Who did your work? I know where I can get a 44 Mag in regular frame and in the Bisley grip both in good shape.
I have a custom holster that I had made for a short 45 colt years back.

Thank you! Jack Huntington built that gun. It's my favorite barrel length on a hunting revolver.
