I have done it with a 357 . Load was a 180 grain hardcast over 13.5 grains of 2400 chronographed at 1300 fps, I shot her at 60+ yards .

Looking for opinions. Would a 44mag break a whitetail front shoulder at 30 yards? In a word, yes.

Looking for opinions. Would a 44mag break a whitetail front shoulder at 30 yards? With a 300gr, or so, hardcast fueled with some h110, it would probably break and shoot through the front shoulders of 3 or 4 deer at 30 yards.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Hard to beat 100%!! There are so many good bullets out there for the 44 magnum & most everyone here that's replied has proven it many times over, some on game much bigger than deer.

Ok, so here's the reason behind the question. I had the buck at 30 yards, he was getting nervous so i took the slightly quartering toward me shot. The deer didnt drop, i found no blood nor a deer after many hours of searching. Not wanting to admit to myself i missed, My brain told me i hit shoulder. But he crashed away on all fours. Your input has forced me to admit the fact. So, now i need a trigger job, new shooting stick, new gun club, but not a new caliber. Tx for the feedback.

So, now i need a trigger job, new shooting stick, new gun club..... Well at least you still have a sense of humor ;-) Lots of room around 'em, as my Daddy says!
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

it happens...
The best thing about your situation is that you didn't injure it and then not find it. Seems to have worked out ok I'd think.
Don't give up, but try again!!!

This deer was taken at 120 yards facing my son. He put a .430 300gr WFNGC MBW's hard cast pushed with 19.0gr of H110, into her chest and it exited her rump; DRT. This one he was shoot'n a 245gr semi wad cutter over 18grs of 2400. It was facing/quartering him at 35 yards; shot hit just behind the left shoulder and exited the ham...DRT.
