I finally christened my Encore Bullberry .300 WM yesterday by downing a nice 9 pt whitetail. The deer was at 300 yards on a powerline when I pulled out my True Talker grunt call and got him to 130 yards before squeezing off the trigger. The 165 gr. Barnes put him down in his tracks. I needed a helicopter to get him out of that creek bottom but instead we had to drag him out--2 hours of dragging up a very steep hill that a 4 wheeler couldn't maneuver. Thank goodness for great friends and my lovely daughter who was a true trooper last night! Now it's time for a christening of my Encore Bullberry .284, which I hope takes place this weekend!

Good on ya!

Rod, too.

Outstanding. I'm glad someone is seeing deer. Been hunting a bunch around here and haven't had one thing to send an arrow on it's way for.
Any photos?

Mike

Thumped him pretty good, Lone Wolf. Love that caliber and definitely love my hand cannon! Got a Weaver Classic riding it and it really shined, too.

Sounds like you have figured out how to hunt Trophy Deer.
Find the worst place you can ever dream of to get a deer out, then hunt their.
Good work breaking in the new barrel.
A am working on both an Optima V2, and a new MGM Contender barrel in 357 Maximum. I have missed the first half of Alternative Weapons Season here in Missouri down with a cold. I am planning on giving it a try in the morning if my head isn't running.

Some of my buddies questioned my sanity when they learned I was still hunting over that valley/gulch even though the roads had washed out. Now they are asking for permission to hunt it as well, knowing I have called up two other shooters in the last week. I said "sure, but I'm not going back in that hole this year!". I've got a dozier lined up for a road-fixin' late spring.
Good luck with getting over that cold, Bob, and have a successful hunt!

I get this not only about where I hunt, but hunting with a handgun. Anything that strays too far from the norm bothers people, but brings great satisfaction in success.

Grats on a great hunt.

Well, the Encore .284 Bullberry was christened yesterday--125 lb. doe fell to the bad boy at 80 yards. The Wisconsin Cartridge 140 gr SP opened quite a hole in the doe's wheel house and, unlike the earlier kill, I was able to drive right up to her and haul her out. That's the way I like to retrieve! Next up...Encore .260 SSK.
