Does anyone here have any experience with the Small Game bullet (SGB)? This little device allows one to file off the round tip of a 22LR bullet, thus creating a flat point. I read about this in Hunting For Handgunners. I imagine its simular to an LBT bullet, but for small game. I'd like to purchase one. Where? Price? Thank you ~~~Suluuq

I haven't heard those things mentioned in years and I never actually saw one. I'll tell ya though - I shot some grey squirrels Friday morning and I was very impressed with the expansion rate of the Aguila Super Extra (SE) hollow points. They have shown tremendous accuracy in my Ruger Single-Six Hunter, Freedom Arms 83, and Contender. I was using the 4-3/4" FA on Friday. I shot one squirrel right in the noggin (that was all I could see) from about 30 yards and the bullet created a void where his skull was that was bigger than a quarter on the exit side. His off-side eyeball was bugged out of the socket too. I've shot hundreds of squirrels in the head with my 10" Contender and the Winchester HPs but I've never seen one blown up like that. I ended up with 5 before I had to leave for work and would have had my limit of 6 except I didn't mind my reloads properly and dropped the hammer on a fired chamber. That one didn't give me a second chance when he heard the snap. You can see a velocity chart of various 22 brands and guns in the Fall 04 issue of the magazine.

The SGB tool was produced in the Hanned Line. It escapes me now who actually did make it, but alas they are out of production. Paco Kelly makes a tool that modifies the nose of the bullet in a couple of different ways to help expansion and performance. His tool is called the ACU"RZR. Gunblast did an article on it and then an update with a new bullet punch called the baby scorp'n. Here is the link to the article.

You can order it from his website here:

Acurizer uses a ""MALLET"" holey hell in a twinky, that would scar the hell out of me. Hitting a rimfire on the nose /shutter

I'm sure there has to be a safe explanation for that but

EA Brown sells a tool to make a Hollow Point 22LR out or round nose 22LR bullet. It works great but sure is a pain when you can buy HP's as cheap as round nose bullets. Here is a link to it.

if you want to save the hassle if filing the nose of the bullets, cci sells the sgb load in their line of rimfires... natchez has them about $4 per box of 50.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.
