So I just bought back a Super Blackhawk from the guy I traded it too. Anyhow I am looking to scope it because my eyes are almost 50 and the sights on the longer barrel are starting to get a little harder to see. I am thinking Leupold but like to hear from anyone of other scopes that may fit the bill.

Thank you in advance

Nikon Force XRs are pretty solid scopes.

I have two Weaver 2.5 x 8 power scopes on contenders. I like them very much.

I would go with a Leupold, a Weaver, or a Bushnell Elite personally. Saw a Nikon come apart recently on a buddies 10" Super. That's the 3rd one I've seen The last year do this. Shouldn't happen on a 44 in my opinion. I have the others on everything up to and including a 50 Alaskan. No issues.

Leupold are nice if you have money to burn. They are a bit to proud of themselves for me. I have had good luck with many; Weaver, Bushnell, Burris. Even Tasco, the old ones. I consider the Weaver 2.5-8 the best bang for the optic buck out there. With handgun scopes the eye relief varies greatly from one to the next so it best to look through them at the distance it will be from your eye when mounted on your gun before you buy.

I have never been able to kill a Leupold

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Thank to all of you for the recommendations.

The last scope I bought was a Nikon and I put it on my .22 barrel for my Contender. Would not zero at all. But the one I put on the .223 barrel works great. Kind of leery of Nikons in all honesty and I know Leupolds reputation but not overly familiar with the other fore mentioned scopes.

The Weaver 2.5-8 is really hard to beat. Good optics and a great price. I have both the Weaver and 2.5-8 Nikon and my prefernece is for the Weaver. I'd like to buy a Leupold at some point, but have a hard time justifying the price difference.

I have heard that the finish on some of the Weavers allow it to "move" in the scope rings. Have you been witness to this or have you also heard of it ?

That's news to me. Any scope can move under recoil if not installed properly. The rings have a lot to say about it.

Same here. I've had one on a .338 Federal, .480, and a 45-70.

You can't beat them. One tough scope for good price.

Think I am going to give a Burris a try. Thanks to everyone for all the recommendations and advice.

I had a scope moving on my 30-30, so I bedded everything with a little JB weld, Bed the base to the barrel and bed the scope to the rings. Removing it has not be a problem with a little heat and perhaps a wire wheel on a dremal. They haven't moved since then. If you have a matte surface, wipe it with a little gun oil to aid in release later. The indexing action from the rough surface will keep it from moving.
