I know..I know...... But for grins and giggles if you could own only one handgun for hunting, etc. which would you pick and why.
Mine would have to be one of my 4" barreled .357's. While not perfect seeing I live in Alaska it does 95% of what I need done.
Thankfully no brownies in my area of the state.

I will humor you ;-)

Others take their turns in support, but my 6" Bisley 45 Colt always rides on my belt.

Rod, too.

Id take a ss G2 contender with a custom 14" 30-30AI with a 2x7 burris scope.

.....and when you was not looking....id sneak a 6x47(6x222mag)barrel with 3x12 burris in my jean leg. 😬

Probably one of these two. I can't decide.

I would have said my Redhawk 44 mag with a ultradot 30 on it but since I got a 30 30 contender with a 14 inch barrel for Christmas I may change my mind in the near future.

This depends a lot on where we live and what we hunt. Living in the mid-west there is little possibility I will shoot a bear, moose, or elk so a big bore is not needed. The choice would come down to either a .22 or .357 Mag., of the two I would probably keep the S&W 686 with a 6" barrel for its versatility. The 686 can take deer or hogs and is also good for defence, with light .38 Special loads it will work for small game. That said, I would still hate to give up my 617.

Either this .500 JRH Bisley:

Or my .500 Maximum. I went big because you can load them down to pussy cat levels but you'll never get the smaller rounds up to these levels. JMHO.

Okay everyone......I said for grins and giggles but instead some of you, you know who you are, are posting pictures of some of the finest hand shooting irons I have seen and instead of a grin/giggle you have me drooling.
Thanks...In a good way...
Keep them coming. You'll give me something to dream about at night.....

For me it is probably more gun then I need but S&W .460, I could shoot .45, 454 or .460 out of it. And it will reach out and touch something if need!

Beautiful guns. But he did say gun not cartridge. So you could have a switch barrel. Technicalities..

Nice try...But I guess you are partially correct. After all a Contender is not really a Contender unless you have no less than half a dozen barrels for it.

Would I be allowed additional barrels? Ah well, either way, if I absolutely had to choose only one:

It would be a toss up between my 5.5" stainless Redhawk in .44 Mag and my 4" stainless GP-100 in .357 Mag.

45colt sbh hunter. Mild to wild, and optics to irons in the field with no loss of zero.

I would choose my Freedom Arms 454.

With the number of bullet and powder choices available for the 454, it is a very versatile cartridge. It can be downloaded to 45 Colt levels if so desired and with Barnes Busters and Swift A-Frames it works well on large animals.

As Kinger stated in another thread, the 454 Casull and the 325 grain A-Frame are a "match made in heaven".

yessir darrell, i'm going back to africa for some of those plains game trophies ya got up there! the 460 with barnes and the 454 with the aframe are basically my loads. if i had to pick one it would be the 454 with swifts and/or some barnes thrown in for good measure.

Practicality tells me to go with my SRH .454 Casull for the range of laods available as well as the ability to pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew should I need self defense.

Nostalgia begs for a nice 1911 in .45 Super or maybe even Rowland.

Sure are some beautiful shooting irons pictured on here.

My filter is broken.

I know I have said my .45 colt goes everywhere with me hunting and it does. But if for some reason I could only have one [hard times, end or the world, Heaven forbid] if would be a .22,22 mag convertible. Where I live there is nothing I can't and haven't killed with a .22 plus I can carry enough ammo to last a long damn time.A couple of thousand 357 would weigh you down a lot more than the 8 or 9 thousand 22,22 mag I have on hand.It would not be the best gun for all occasions, but I can make it work.
