hey xphunter.....aka ernie. can ya run exbal on my 14" 35 remington contender?

i think this baby is underrated, overlooked etc., when it actually should be quite impressive on whitetail at longer ranges than one thinks. especially if the 180gr ssp performs like i've heard.

180gr hornady ssp running at 2182fps, at 40-50 degree air temp, and aproximately 700 ft elevation. my normal sight in is around 1.5" high at 100yds.

thank you much, and here is a link to a online balistic calculator that is fun to play with. curious as to how accurate it is in comparison also.

went with 45 degrees for temp and then everything else you said.
With a 1.5 inches high @ 100 yards your zero is 143 yards.
- 2.5 @ 175 yds
- 5.3 @ 200
- 9.0 225
- 13.5 & 250

BC is what kills this cartridge...that's why I went with the .338JDJ#2 over the .358JDJ when buying a custom barrel several years ago. The .338 spits bullets of the same weight to the same fps as the .358" version but the higher BC of the .338" pills really makes a difference in trajectory and kinetic energy on target.

My standard .35 Rem is getting the same exact fps as KYODE's rimmed .35 Remmy. I'm using 40gr H322 and a 180gr SSPB.

Dan,
I'd be curious to compare notes with your 338 to my OTT 338. Just got Kyle's chrony, so used it the first time with the 338. I know I can go a little higher, but with a 215gr. Sierra, I'm at 2300 or so using 46gr. Varget. Cases are just falling out, and no problems with the primers on Mike's tight chambering. Remember, this barrel was cut on your dummies.

Thanks!!

Jeff

still not bad for what most would think out of a 35rem though. a hold of 12"-13" would not be too hard to compensate for should an ocassional 250yd shot present itself. crosshairs just on the top of the back at 225 fer sure. i hear the 180ssp IS soft enuff to expand at the longer ranges also.

i agree with the 338 though. i've longed for one of those also. sumtimes the custom price tag takes a while this 35rem is a cheaper option since a factory barrel can be used.

a very nice addition to this thread would be a direct exbal comparison between the 338jdj n 35rem. ernie?? dan/jeff/anybody?.......give him some numbers

That sounds about right w/ the 215gr Sierra bullets...my load is 50gr Varget at 2300fps. Best accuracy is at 49gr though.

180gr NBT at 2450fps w/ 52gr RL-15 is a hammer on deer!

My other load is 225gr Hornady Interlock at 2250fps w/ 47.3gr RL-15.

Kyle,
When you list a bullet weight, please give me it's caliber, brand and MV. This will keep me from getting confused with bullets of same weight but in different calibers.

dan was talkin .338......so the 180gr Nosler balistic tip in .338 compared to .358 180gr hornady ssp

it's not necessary anyway ernie.....just thought that a direct comparison between the two in this thread may interest others. thanks fer takin the time anyhow
