First rate place . Lodge is awesome. As Jim said we have been there twice and going back in the fall. I have only shot boar there but there is alot of different animals. We still hunt but there is stand options. The guides are good guys. You will have a ball.

Hey guys. I just got home from the Wilderness Lodge from my hunt with my son. We went with the intent of each hunting Corsican Sheep on a one day handgun hunt. We arrived Thursday evening with the plan in place. At breakfast on Fri our guide told us about their small breeding herd of Iranian Red Sheep that had 2 young rams they wanted to take out so their big breeder ram could do his business. They offered them to us for the same price as the regular rams although fully mature Red Sheep can go for $1500 or more. They warned us that it would be tough as they were very skittish. An understatement. Matthew got his (his first handgun kill) after 2pm on Friday. With his Contender in 358 JDJ.
I did not get one. We stayed over and hit the woods Saturrday at daylight. I finally connected at 3:10pm with my 460 S&W XVR. We Walked many miles had too many blown stalks to count. Much spookier than white tails. 10x binocular vision. A great hunt for a beautiful animal. Great time with my son. I will post a more detailed write-up later

The facilities at The Wilderness are excellent. The lodge is a beautiful plank and timber style lodge with a loft for large group dorm style sleeping plus several private rooms. Lots of taxidermy everywhere. The people are great. It's a family run business with Adam and his dad Andy at the helm. We had a great home cooked breakfast and lunch each day. The guides are great too. Our guide Josh worked very hard for 2 days to help us get our sheep. They also have a first class skinning room / walk in cooler facility. Their website is:

thewildernesspa.com.

I will load the photos when I get the time to sit at the computer.

Guys,

We did have a terrific time. Thanks for all the comments. Furthermore, the Red Sheep meat is delicous. I prepared it similar to how I do venison. Steak sliced about 3/4" thick. Sprinkled with garlic powder then marinated in Italian dressing overnight. (A minimum of 2 hours works). Then sear on a hot griddle or grill for several minutes. Blackened on the outside - pink on the inside. It is a corser grain than venison. And had a sweeter taste. It reminded me of the Impala and Blesbok I had in Africa. Great stuff!

Awesome! Glad to hear they were edible. That 12 year old Corsican I shot was so tough that dog would eat it. Huge congrats on some fine animals.

Billa,

I noticed you said they made a great breakfast and lunch.

No dinner?

What did you eat after the day's hunt was over?

Sounds odd dinner was not part of the package.

They do not staff the kitchen for the evening meal. There is an excellent family restaurant /diner nearby or you can bring your own food and prepare it in the kitchen at the lodge. Actually it works out quite well for the hunters. We ate at the diner on our arrival day and we joined in with another group of hunters to dine at the lodge the next night.
