Has anyone had any experience with converting a Blackhawk to a non factory caliber. I am toying with the idea of converting mine (45 colt) to 22 hornet. I will sleeve the cylinders and chamber to hornet and replace the barrel with a 10" tube. I have a lathe and have turned some test inserts that turned out well,I know a local gunsmith who will remove the .45 and install the hornet when I have finished turning it. I haven't shot the Blackhawk in years but am an avid groundhog hunter, just thought a hornet revolver would be fun but don't really want a Taurus .
Never converted a Blackhawk; however, I have two BFRs chambered in 22 Hornet. Shoot great and a real gopher slayer. I use jacketed and cast bullets in mine.
Loctite sleeve retainer or Loctite red , I haven't decided what will work the best. With Loctite If I want to return the gun to original, I can remove the sleeves with a heat gun.
go for it...... let me know the results....I`ve always been a sucker for bottleneck cartridges in revolvers.... had 22Kay-Chuck which is shortened K-Hornet to fit a S&W K-frame cylinder.....
