A few weeks ago, I asked here about good benchrests for specialty pistols. A few of you mentioned something about a C&J Machine rest that many people like. After doing a bit of research online, I found out everyone who used the rest loved it. More importantly, I found the C&J owner's email address on another site. Unfortunately, it had been posted almost ten years ago, and I feared I might not get a response. However, Mr. Davis got back to me fairly quickly. I was told he was about to quit making them, but by a great stroke of luck he had one more frame left. I accepted his offer and bought it. This rest is one well built machine. Used in conjunction with my homemade shooting table, this rest will no doubt form an incredibly stable shooting platform for my handguns. It easily accommodates both my relatively compact Fireball and massive Model 460 without needing adjustment. For longer or shorter handguns, the bottom plate that holds the leather bag can be unscrewed and moved forward and back on the frame, so it can fit both my relatively diminutive 41 Magnum and the long 300 Win Mag Encore.

Those rests are well praised, Chance. Nice score!
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

That rest looks like a well built piece of work. The steel you got resting on it is nice too!!
Next weekend I'm building my new shooting table as an expansion off the back of the camp ... your new toy would come in handy.

I just noticed, that's a C&J rest in your avatar picture, isn't it?

Yep....it sure is 😬 ive know cayle for a long time. I had thought he quit making rests a few yrs ago. I keep seeing one pop up here n there lol.
Works good.....but mine was an early one and was not adjustable. It was not working to satisfy me for the shot angle etc at the range i was shooting at back then. I had it cut down, and it is now like a normal front rest. i use the rear brick bag in a home made wood holder for the grip.
He came out with an all aluminum one later. That would be sweet!

What did you fill your bags with? I used corncob tumbling media. didnt need the extra weight of sand. That rest is good n heavy as is!

Sand makes a very stable bag for bench use at home.If you carry one in the field plastic pellets or tumbling media work real well at 1/3 the weight. An advantage of plastic is they don't hold moisture.A friend in the plastic industry gets me 5 gal. at a time, floor sweepings from spills.
