Hello all, I just got my tc barrel back from my gunsmith! He did a beautiful job. I had a 14 inch super match in 22 lr and he rechambered it to the k-hornet. I have not loaded any rounds for it yet and I was wondering if anyone knows what the bore diameter of this barrel is? I know that the long rifle is usually .222 or .223 but was wondering if t/c might be .224? It doesnt matter to me as all diameters are available, I just dont know which bullets to by. I could slug the barrel but if somebody out there has this info, I would be very grateful. joe2

I may be interested in those bullets as soon as I find out what the barrel diameter is in my T/C, Are you saying that it is .222? I have just begun to look at this handgun so any info would be very helpful. I also am looking at different scopes for this gun, and there seems to be some who say that for varmints and targets, a rifle scope is the way to go, is there any merit to this? as one of there reasons is field of view, which after some checking online is about twice that of a pistol scope. Im full of questions aint I? thanks in advance for the replys. Joe

Joe,

I don't know what TC used for bore diameter, but if you check most of the barrel makers they use .222" for rimfire.

Rifle scopes are great for low recoil calibers in a handgun. I have a 16X riflescope on my XP in 221 Fireball and a 16X scope on my 223 Encore. Works great for woodchucks and targets.

Like Tigger said...I have heard that rimfire barrels (of all make and model) have a .222" bore.

As for a scope...I don't like using a rifle scope on a handgun...just my opinion. I've tried it and did not like it! Semi-stationary varmints (g-hogs, p-dogs, etc) do not require a large FOV to shoot and I doubt that you would need any more magnification that 12X to shoot them at distance you will typically encounter. The last time I tried to shoot a target that was moving happened at the range on a windy day and I did not put enough staples in the paper!! Hence my recommendation would be a Burris 3-12x32 handgun scope.

If you plan on shooting more active critters (fox, coyotes, turkey, etc) with a rifle scope on your handgun then you will quickly find out that regardless of FOV you will have a touch time getting saddled up to the scope and steady to shoot.

Since we are discussing a scope for your .22 K-Hornet, I doubt you will be shooting over 300 yards so massive magnification is not needed. So a refined recommendation would be a 2-7X Burris, 2-8X Weaver, 2-6X Bushnell, or any other scope that falls into that category.

Dan, I may be wrong but it seems like I read something about .224 bores were used for 22mags, it was an article talking about converting 22lr to 22mag and that it should only be done if the barrel is already .224 otherwise it would be too tight. it's been a while so I don't remember for sure, I don't even remember where it was, it may have been on this forum.

You are correct...I totally forgot to include that...only the .22LR was a .222" bore. The .22 Mag is a .224".

Yup the mag is 224. The bore on the Ruger single six is 224. That's why the single six for the most part has mediocre accuracy with the 22LR and better accuracy with the mag ammo.

How many and how much? I am interested in your .222 bullets. I think I will go with a 2x6 trophy handgun scope, It should do me fine. I like the Idea of a constant eye relief. Cant wait to use it on the local coyote population! (My nieghbor has asked for help in contolling them as they are killing his stock, Tough job, but...)One more request, Does anyone have a good line on wood for this gun? It has pachmayr plastic on it now and I would love to have some decent varmint/target wood. Thanks gentlemen Joe
