I've been working on a load for my '78 S/W Model 19 .357.
I LOVE this revolver. The quality of it is so good. I wanted to put together an accurate load for small and medium game.
My criteria were as follows:
1. Very accurate (5 shots at 25 yds)
2. Moderate power level (So as to protect the model 19)
3. It should be able to take care of predators, southern whitetails, finishing game off etc.

I think I've found it shooting the Nosler 158 grain JHP. What do you guys think? Someone out there used comparable loads for the same tasks?

That'll work....

148 wad cutter over a light load of Bullseye is what I use in my Smith 65 for the small critters..

158's over Bluedot at 1200fps general carry. Very accurate out of the Smith and gets the job done.

Step it up at few notches for the bigger stuff.
158's over H110 for the bigger stuff out of my GP100.

Love your choice of calibers by the way...

Skeeter would surely smile.

I load 5gr/titegroup with a Hornady 158 swaged SWC for small game and predators. Shoots extremely well from a S&W 686 [8 3/8" barrel and a GP100 6" barrel.] Moving up to whitetail, I would load the Noslers you mentioned with max 296 or H110.

Nice group. I have a boat load of 158 JHP's so they get used for pretty much everything. I shoot a GP100 so not worried about babying it so usually near max dose of H110 or lil gun is the norm, although for when I take the kids plinking I tune her down a bit with 4.8 grains of TG. That load would do fine for small game as well I'm sure but I don't use the GeeP for that purpose.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I figure just about any cast bullet loaded to 38 Special velocities would do well on anything small. If you're after coyotes, I say run a 110 or 125 grain HP as hot as you want. For deer, maybe try a cast bullet.
