NO, not that kind of snake. I'm in the heart of groundhog hunting. I'd seen this hole close to a country road several times. Today, I parked back and sneaked up. See it to the left of center between the boards. When I got here the 'hog was laying on it
I had to shoot, NOW, 36 yards, between the boards. My 6" silver snake spoke. Perfect double shoulder hit, 158 gr. Sierra JHC. He got bit hard
Went to another farm close by. Saw several 'hogs there. Formulated a plan. Sneaked up to the gate in the background, waited a few minutes and Mr. 'Hog crawled up on the old fence posts. Had my 4" blue snake this time. 26 yards, quartering to, hit one shoulder, 1 1/4" exit in ribs, 125 gr. Sierra JHC
I've taken 675 groundhogs with my two Pythons. After lots of bullet testing I've found the Sierra JHCs to be the most destructive bullets. XTPs do not cause as much damage, expand as much as the Sierras, but do penetrate better (in deer).
I still had some time left so I sat on the hill above the last kill. What a view!
I had my 6mm AI Encore. After a little while a 'hog came out to the right of the far fence and old tractor tire. 70 gr. Hornady SX, 169 yards, dead 'hog.
I waited a little more. Another 'hog came out on the far high wall just above the dirt. This was more to my liking. 362 yards, 70 gr. BT, another dead 'hog
This is a pretty good place for groundhogs, but it's on of my top deer damage farms. The fields behind the tire are planted with corn. I usually set on the high wall and get shots from 175 to 500 yards. One year I got to the gate and deer were coming out of the corn. Dropped one there. They were confused and ran to the bottom of the high wall. Dropped another. The rest ran to the top of the high wall and stopped. I'm thinking- a triple (stupid thought). Dropped another. Shots were from 340 to 370 yards, 6.5/.284, 120 BT, 120 Solid base, 130 AB.
Then reality set in. I had three deer to clean in the August heat and humidity. No more triples for me.
