I just got this Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 45LC w/Simmons scope. I have another BlackHawk in 45LC and thought I would use the same load. NOT!
Best groups at 50yds is about 4" with 21.5grn of H110 and a 300grn Cast w/gas check and light crimp. This load shoots under 2" with my open sight BH. At 100 yds this load is about 6". This is not exceptable to me. Some at the range didn't have a problem with this group at 100yds. This pistol has a great trigger that breaks clean each time and it doesn't seem to have any excess slack in the cylinder.
I tried my other load of 25.5grn of H110 w/a 250 grn XTP. It shot about the same.
Do you think I'm just spoiled shooting my XP's and Encores into little bug hole groups or do you guys have a better load that might tighten up my group. Deer season is in 6 days and I sure wanted to use this pistol.
One more thing. I took the scope off in desperation and shot open sights thinking the scope might have gone south.
At fifty yards there was no change in group. Still about 4".
Thanks in advance.
Mike

Mike I'm getting "very good" accuracy with my iron sighted 4 5/8" 45 Colt Blackhawk using 19.0grs of 2400 under a Hornady 250gr XTP.....the load is above max in the books but it shoots fantastic with no signs of pressure in my pistol.

I took a big doe back in '98' with the load at a little under 60yds. and it was simply "Bang Flop".

If you want to try the load I'd be happy to give you a couple wheels full of loaded ammo or the components to roll your own.....if interested stop by and I'll fix you up.

I use 2 heavy loads that I worked up to in my blackhawks, they both exceed max in the books but they are both very accurate. If you want to work up to them in your gun the first one is 26gr of h110 under a 300gr xtp and the other is 25gr of h110 under the cast performance 335 gr. both of these give you velocities starting in to the 454 range. I would definately work up to them though just in case tolerance differences in your gun and mine casuse a problem. your sbhh should handle it fine though as I'm shooting mine out of a standard blackhawk with a fluted cylinder.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

My .45 LC Hunter loves Hodgdons Lil'Gun and 340gr Penn bullets. At 50 yards it shoots clusters with all shots touching...last week I shot a group at 100 yards that had four shots touching and the other two were out to make the entire group about 3" across...pretty sure that was me though. Mine is scoped with a 4X Weaver and has not had any action or cylinder work done.
