Hi guys, first off I want to thank everyone for all the new info that yall have been feeding a newbie. It is almost overwhelming to digest it all. But now I have a new questions. Last week I received my first handgun designed for hunting. I got a Ruger bisley hunter with 7.5 barrel in 44 mag. I wanted to try my hand with a red dot optics. So I purchased an aftermarket picatinny rail from Weigand Combat. And I purchased a MRO trijicon site (yes I know it is primarily used on long guns). My questions is there an optimal spot on the rail to mount the optics? Was thinking maybe in the halfway point of the gun but would really appreciate some input from some of you not so newbies. Thanks in advance.

If that is the rail that cantilevers rearward over the backstrap I would mount the dot as far rearward, closest to the eye, as it will allow.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Like Rod, I would mount it as far rearward as possible to put the weight over the hands. That should make the gun less muzzle heavy. But you should mount it where you get the best feel or balance.

Post some pics when you get set up. I almost bought a MRO myself. I'm interested to see one on the gun

Bama. Does your Weigand rail use solid pins or roll pins to locate the rail on the top of the barrel?

Reason I ask is a few of us have had the hollow roll pins deform and crush, allowing the entire mount to slide forward.
I have the same gun as you and ended up needing my mount replaced because of that. Weigand replaced it with the same mount with solid pins, and it has been good since.

Thanks 98. Mine has the rolled pins. I'll need to keep an eye on it. Appreciate the info.
