What is your go to whitetail bullet for the 454 casull? Thanks in advance guys.

I always used the heavier/magnum 300 grain XTP for deer and deer sized game. MY was 1775 fps in my FA. Used Bob's loading and he said, mine was faster than normal.

Mike, my "whitetail load" used the older double crimp groove 300gr XTP over 27.4grs of H-4227...ran approx. 1400fps from my 7 1/2" 454...its a slower loading compared to factory 454 ammo, but was a dream to shoot and the extra bullet weight allowed almost any angle shot from 100yds and under.....used it on 13 or 14 deer..

I came up on these two deer two years ago on a crop damage hunt. They were about 10 yards apart.

I had my 7 1/2" FA .454. Dropped the one on the left in it's tracks with a 260 gr. Speer HP at 99 yards. The one on the right froze up, confused. The second bullet in the cylinder was a 265 gr. Swift HP. She dropped in her tracks at 102 yards.
The damage from the Speer was 2 1/2" internally, and 3 1/2" internally with the Swift.
These are the only two bullets I use on deer. I actually recovered 5 300 gr. XTPs from deer. My thinking is that if can't penetrate our smallish WV whitetails , then they're not for me. The Speer and Swift were total penetration.

Mine is a 260 gr. Nosler Partition over a max dose of H110.

My FA 454 really likes the 250gr Barnes XPB

I would not say that I have found my "go to" bullet yet. But, I've used 250gr Hornady XTP and 350gr RFN-GC to acceptable success so far.

My favorite is a 280 cast WFN over a load of H 110

I've only used the 300gr XTP Mag in my .454 SRH so it's kinda my favorite. By default.

It's between 265 Swift and 250 Barnes XPB so far for me. I have one with each and want to try them both again! The Barnes expanded just like you read about, but did not get full penetration. The Swift gave good penetration and good accuracy in my FA 83.

I had good results with Nosler's 260 Partition in my 45 Colt, but Can't find any more
