I love it! It looks pretty much like mine, except mine is blued. I like those grips, too. I need to get a set to help tame the bite a bit..

If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

briarhopper, does your DW 44 have removable front sight??? If it does I can send you a white or yellow insert front sight....Let me know and I will get it out to you......There`s no way I will let an Alaskan walk out his front door without a front sight he can see

Love that 44 spec too. I sometimes put 44 special ammo in my DW and carry it in a holster I made for a daily carry. Not often, but sometimes. With the .44 special ammo, a 4-year old could shoot it. Very, very tame.

There is a pin-hole in the front of the sight under the blade, so I assume that is for a removable blade. I think I read you push a pin in and it releases a plunger, and the blade lifts out???

BH, I believe you can use a tiny allen wrench to back out a set screw holding in the front sight...see if that`s what you have...
PM your address to me and I will send you the front sight...white or yellow????? I was thinking yellow in case of snow but its your choice.....also send extra set screw....

I go with the 357 also here in NC. Two legged creatures are our biggest worry here.

Dang,, James I have had one of the Ruger single action 44 mags in the little 3" or 3 1/2" Bisley configuration. ( had it about 5 years) It just loves the 305 grain Buffalo Bore. Its SS with a beautiful piece of Ebony. ( total black) Wish I could post a photo of it. I have never tried the Garrett 310 Defenders in it but have used them in my 4 1/2" Bisley Ruger black hawk. They work great.
For those of you that think these are only close up and personal,,, I know for a fact that they can be used to longer distances than I would have imagined.
I just thought I might have been in the short barrel club. You guys trump me on this one.
Charles

I understand. My daughter and son-in-law moved from up here back to his hometown south of Asheville NC, and I think he left his .44 here with his dad and just took a Glock 10mm. He's not really a shooter anyhow, and saw no need for the .44.

HAHA!!!! Just messing with ya. I know Dewayne (Briarhopper) pretty well. Did some time in the oilfield with him. Couldn't let him have a free pass.

Don't feel bad, Charlie. Compared to the .500 JRH that Paul carries, even my .44 mag is medium bore.

James, I apologize for taking so long to get to back to you. I got in the front sight inserts, and installed the yellow one. I've never used a yellow before, and I'm amazed how well it stands out. I went out to shoot with it today for the first time, and I was laying in a 4" pattern at 15 yards standing, shooting HSM 305 grn hard cast bear loads off-handed. Not great shooting for someone like you, but I'm pretty tickled with it. It gives me something to work with. I sure do thank you, and I owe you a moose hunt, if you ever make it up here.

Those holes you seen were from a 45-70 and from me shooting from down here....LOL

Hey James...You really should take Dwayne up on his offer.... Get a taste of the Kenai Peninsula and you may have to change your name to James from Alaska.....

are you kiddin Dewayne.....I would shoot a 8" pattern offhand at 15yds with 305gr BEAR LOADS....great that you like the yellow insert....white or yellow always stands out good for me rather then a black front sight....helps me to center the front much faster into the square notch rear when hunting...If I could...I would be there in a heartbeat lookin for moose with you guys....

Not flashy, and not cool...
Probably my Glock 10mm.
Lightweight, easy holster wear, and a good number rounds, that I can put downrange fairly quickly and still control things.

Those Dan Wesson 44 snubbies look sweet!

Seems like a good backcountry sidearm!

Looks good. Had no idea Dan Wesson made a snub 44 Mag.

I have a 480 Alaskan, and installed a Red Fiber Optic front sight on it. Black is not a good front sight color for me either.

From what I can discover through research, they only made these blued fixed snubbies for only one year in the '80's
