Anyone have any experiences to share using cantilevered scope rings with rifle or scout scopes on specialty pistols? I was contemplating the setup on a 223 barrel with a moderate (x-14 or 16) rifle scope for targets, plinking and p-dogs.

I've got a couple barrels with the Ken Light UAS mount and rifle scopes. I like the system but am going to try a couple of the Nikon P-Series rings to try and get the scope a bit lower and a little closer to the action for a more compact package.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Karl,
What kind of SP do you have in 223?

I got a 14" factory contender barrel (1 in 12) to play with. Short term goal is have fun and shoot more, long term is use it to figure out what I would like for a longer range setup (maybe fast twist 223 for convenience, or something yet un-identified, but probably both :).

The firearms I like to shoot all typically have higher magnification scopes on them for a variety of reasons, but in the end, I find I produce smaller groups and better precision that way. I find it easier to work on accuracy when you know your firearm is precise.

My 223 bolt wears a 6-24. The 20-24 range is really only useful on distant PDs. I think a 5-20 or 4.5-18 would be a better zoom range on that rifle.

I borrowed a Nikon ?-14 from my 22 for my 17hmr and found that it really didn't help much at 100 yards and the hmr didn't perform well enough at 200 yards to make it worth it, so I switched back to a 2.5-8 which seems well suited for the round

I am thinking that a 4-16 might be in the sweet spot of my capabilities and the factory 223 barrel. I wasn't a huge fan of choking up on my 17hmr that much before and am looking at other mounting options.

The Ken Light mount looks very intriguing.
