I think I am finally getting the hang of this handgun thing. Spent the day at the farm and did some pesting. I missed the first squirrel the first shot as it was high up in a sycamore tree and only its head was showing, got it with the second shot. The starling was in the top of a tree at 20-25 yards. The first squirrel and starling were shot using a two hand hold resting on the well house roof. The other squirrel was shot using a two hand hold with no rest. Four shots today and three kills left me with a good feeling. I still need a lot of practice to consider myself a hand gunner though.

Good on ya, Teep. Tell us a little about your rig there.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

It's a S&W 617 with a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot sight. I was shooting Aquila HVHP ammo. I really don't like the TRS and plan on replacing it with a Vortex Venom soon to match my S&W 686. I have really been impressed with the accuracy of both the 617 and 686. At one time I did quite well with handguns, an original Contender. but quit shooting powder for about 40 years. I started back into handguns two years ago and found that 70 year old eyes and open sights didn't go together. The red dots have helped a lot but I don't have the muscle tone to really steady a handgun anymore but I will continue to try. I did manage a 3" ten shot group at 25 yards using a two hand hold, eight were within 2" so there is hope.

Teep, That's good shooting. Looks like you are having fun. Try a shooting stick or bipod to steady your rest. It helps a lot and they can double as a walking stick to steady you when you need it. Quite a few of us are younger than you but we use a stick to walk about. For serious distance shooting I use a Bog Pod tripod as do many of the guys on this forum. Keep whacking those pests!
