My Gander Mountain is having their going out of business sale.
They have two handgun scopes in the store right now:
Leopold vx-2 fixed power gloss finish for $239.98
Burris 2x-7x for $215.98

I don't really need a scope but I wouldn't mind mounting a better scope on my SW 460. I have two questions.

Which scope has everyone found to me more reliable and resistant to the punishing kick of big magnums?

Is this a good enough deal to buy one to put in the closet as a back up for when one breaks.

Its showing to be about 20% off both.

When it comes to heavy recoil, the fewer moving parts = less that may go wrong. That said, a 460 can really reach out there so more X's could come in handy. Burris has had a good rep standing behind their stuff, as well as Leupy, so that should be a wash.

I have both scopes.

The .460 has enough legs to use the 7x afforded by the Burris. Unfortunately, the Burris has pretty short (sp. crappy) eye relief at 7x. Something to keep in mind if your handgun generates much muzzle rise.

The Leupold will be more comfortable to shoot with the longer eye relief. The Burris will be easier to shoot at greater distance with a little more magnification.

Both have lifetime warranties and I've used both. Burris took longer to rectify the problem.

Either will work, with their limits as stated.

I wouldn't want either on a 460. The 2x power is too little magnification, and I'd prefer a Leupold or Nikon over a Burris (or anything else, for that matter) on such a heavy kicking handgun.

I ended up getting the Burris. I like the magnification and it ended up being 30% off. It may not be the top of the line but it was a good deal and should work nicely on the 460 specially for under 200$.

Smart move, the burris gets touchy with eye relief at 7 power but just leave mine at 4 power. Ive had one on a 460 for years and not a problem yet. If im in a blind and can shoot off a secure rest then 7x is useable. I think u gain a bit of versatility with the burris.
