Just in case anyone missed the NRA alert in the sidebar, South African authorities have changed what they recognize as proof of ownership for firearms accompanying travelers. See https://www.nraila.org/articles/20170602...a-with-firearms for details to see if this may affect you.

Governments are the same everywhere. Screwing around with meaningless bullshit rules and policies that don't do anything but create more paperwork. How little does someone have to do that they sit around and examine a form to see that it has an expiration date. What ownership of a firearm expires? Dipshits!

Your not wrong. I just don't want to see anyone turn up at the SA Pol office expecting a permit, only to get their guns confiscated and trip ruined. Likewise I wouldn't like to see them shaken down for a "special contribution" to grease the process. (Another reason to get the permits pre-cleared through an agent.)

Absolutely and thanks for letting everyone know the rules have changed again... You almost have to get your permit ahead of time now too as a few years ago they changed the rules so that the local cops couldn't screw with you... Looks like they figured out a way around that. Your not wrong. I just don't want to see anyone turn up at the SA Pol office expecting a permit, only to get their guns confiscated and trip ruined. My suggestion is to make sure you have the current 4457 form and then I would just book my travel through Gracey and use their services. They made it easy and quick.
