I recently bought out a local older gentleman's supply of .410 caliber projectiles, and in that lot were 72 half jacketed 265 grain soft nose bullets. Right now all I have powder wise is H110 and lilgun I'm using Remington primers. How should I go about working up a load for this bullet? Do yall think it would be safe to start at the lowest published charge of H110 for a 265 cast bullet and work foreward from there? I will be running them out of a super redhawk and maybe a 10 inch contender. I just don't want to do anything to risky, I know that often jacketed bullets tend to run at higher pressure than their cast counterparts all else being equal.

I was surprised to find a Super Redhawk in .41 magnumber as well. Lipsey's did a small run of them with the 7.5 inch barrel and I was lucky enough to nab one.

The Hodgdon yearly manual lists the 265 gr. cast WLNGC with a starting load of 19.5 gr. H110 and a max load of 20.8 gr. H110.
The starting load should not be a problem for a 265 jacketed in the SuperRed. Be sure and check the barrel after a buch of shots and make sure you don't get jacket/core separation.
Keep on the look out for the old Speer 200 gr. Half Jacket HP. I shoot them a lot. Perform great and hold up to full power loads.
Be nice if you could find out more about the bullet like jacket thickness. Have be careful about the unknown. Just check the barrel.

Thank you! That's kind of the direction I was thinking. I haven't seen the speer half jackets in a while. My .41s get a pretty steady diet of 210 grain XTPs, but since I aquired the SRH I'm itching to run a bunch of different projectiles through it. Hopefully I don't fall in love with these 265 grain half jackets because I can't find anything out about them. They came in an unmarked box with "265 grn .410" written on a slip of paper in magic marker, taped to the top.

You won't see Speer half jackets unless you run across New/Old stock or somesone's personal stash. Speer discontinued them siteing jacket separations with jackets lodged in the barrel. I shot thousands of them (146 gr HP) in .357 Mag and they were extremely accurate and effective on everything from groundhogs to deer. My personal stash lasted about 5 yrs after production stopped. Out of frustration of not finding any for sale I called Speer and got an earful from a gentleman name Coy. He was emphatic that I should never fire another one for my own good.

I had them in .41 and .44. Never a problem, but I did not red line them.
