My son and I were shooting yesterday and my Savage Striker broke the bolt retaining pin again. The gun is locked up tight with I think the off side piece of the retainer hanging in the receiver cut. Last time a bit of jiggling and pecking and holding my tongue right it came out. Not so lucky this time. Now what?

I might be showing massive stupidity here but I would put it in the freezer and see if the cold would loosen the tolerances some.LOL

New boat anchor....Sorry junebug...
Try tapping it with a brass headed hammer to see it will get it to move.

Nothing has moved it so far, pecking beating or prying. I could probably take the back of the bolt off , remove the barrel and tap it out the front of the receiver. But the broken pin will gouge a furrow in the side of the bolt and or the receiver ,it is truly tight. Called Savage today and they said send it in,but I would like to talk to a service tech first. This is the second time it has broken.Would have been bad on a hunt for something that bites back,or any hunt for that matter.

I would be sending it back to Savage. Two reasons:
i. They should have the tools and experience to deal with the problem without damaging your receiver.
ii. This is a part that shouldn't fail and they need to see what's gone wrong. Is there another issue putting excess pressure on the bolt head/bolt body join or was there a heat treating problem with a batch of pins? IMHO that pin shouldn't be under the type of forces sufficient to break.

Will probably send it off Friday after talking to a service tech.Friday is my off day, doing 6 to 6 right now and not enough hours in the day.I agree it should not break that pin but it has twice. Have an extra pin but that don't help when ya can't get the da!@#!$$%^& bolt out.
